That's good LG when you can get some information.

I have no-one to ask anymore and I would like to visit the old cemetery in Doncaster as I am sure there must be several members of my family there, but it was closed years ago and it's not a good place to walk round on your own nowadays as I believe druggies hang out there.

The new cemetery has only been in use for about 75 years and it is straight across the road from me at the back of the houses. Just my luck that I can't find anything there!

Ooooooo I love old graveyards.such a shame it has unwanted guests. I have found out where several of OH's reliies are buried so waiting for better weather to make a visit.
I have the phots we took last year on holiday of my rellies in derbyshire and I really must scan and download onto my tree one day. When I get a minute that is LOL
Have you tried contacting your local coucil for burial records they should be able to tell you which cemetary and also the plot number.

Not for ancestors, no. I did speak to them to trace my brother's grave in the new cemetery. He died prematurely and only ever heard my mother mention him once. They did find the grave for me and were very helpful. I didn't know the year of death and can't remember now how I went about it!

I have plenty of census records for the ancestors, but need to get certificates to verify. It's a bit costly to get one for every family member, when you think about birth, marriage and death certs for the majority of them.

I emailed the more distant ones ie the Bradford one for my Gran. It is possible in some places. to visit their offices and look them up for yourself. If they were buried in churchyards it is worth contacting the church and asking if they have details of their graves. Our village church has a website with a list of the graves in their churchyard.
As for loooking the dates up have you tried freebmd I have found loads of rellies on there

YG Report 27 Jan 2010 22:17

I've got the dates but I don't know which church served the old churchyard. I can found out quite a lot of information from the archives office but I need time to visit and that is something I haven't got until I finish work. I discovered a distant rellie of mine who works there part time, so I have no excuse when I 'm ready!

I found the Wakefield Archives very helpful for one ancestor who I found on a prison census!!

I have got to contact Derbyshire one again as I am wondering if there is another cemetery that was used rather than just the church one as I have 'lost' a few of my lot somewhere. I really must do that as one of the 'lost is my g.g.g.Grandad.

YG

YG Report 27 Jan 2010 22:27

I'm sure there will be somewhere. Some of them are very elusive!

I probably asked this before but I obviously forgot the answer. Do they put someone who die of consumption in a special place or just bury them?

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 28 Jan 2010 00:10

RMS Consumption as you know is tuberculosis, a lung disease. I don't think they are buried any differently to normal dead people.

However, I might venture to say (without any real knowledge) that because people who had consumption were usually hospitalized in a sanatorium, there might be cemetries attached or near the sanatorium where they were buried. This would give an appearance of consumptives all being buried at the same place.

This is purely speculative as I said.

morning all the only death that i remember being treared differently years ago was a tetanus death I lived in a cemetery when i was little as dad worked there I can recall all the fuss on that event to day ,

LaGooner Report 28 Jan 2010 08:58

Morning all, I have never heard of anyone being treated differently through illness but I believe they were if they commited suicide. No consecrated ground for them.

Pauline $(*-*)$ Report 28 Jan 2010 10:38

I didn't know that about suicide, not that I've got anyone in my tree that committed suicide. Well, if I have, I haven't come across it yet.

I didn't know that tetanus deaths were treated differently either.

Hmm, I don't know much do I?

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 28 Jan 2010 13:52

LOL. Pauline ask me anything vital and I couldn't tell you but I am a mine of useless information PMSL. Often can't think what I did yesterday but ask me about my childhood and I remember things from a very tiny girl. (I have been told this is a sign of old age !!) NO COMMENTS FROM YOU LOT LOL.

Mazfromnorf

Mazfromnorf Report 28 Jan 2010 14:12

hello
tetanus was treated years ago differently because of its infectious situation it was always a closed burial as in no-one around then it was a cremation .
