Thanks Lib, I think the woodman will be right as the son and Grandson were gardeners, but the other one is a man too, so I don't think it will be housekeeper, can you tell me which site you go on to find old occupations please? Thanks, Liz.

Liz - you're from Yorkshire so presumably you know about FWKs (Frame Work Knitters) and have eliminated them from your search for FHKs. Posted this 'just in case'. Regards, Anne

Thanks Ann,It could well be frame work knitter as the middle letter is not very clear and it could be a W. Liz.

Hello Olde Crone, My Husband is still laughing at your name, I did feel a bit rude typing it, I can still hear him chuckling in the next room, I think it must be a frame knitter, so thank you. Liz.

I was just going to write about an unusual occupation I had seen - Mr Scrimshaw and his son in Grimoldsby, Lincs 1841 were... Castrators

There is a joke (relating I think to the emasculation of camels), the last two lines of which are- 'Doesn't it hurt?' 'Only if you get your thumbs caught between the bricks!'

Another camel joke ends with the Englishman saying to the Old Bedouin Woman 'Well you'd better tickle mine too. I've got to catch that beggar!'
