There is a joke (relating I think to the emasculation of camels), the last two lines of which are- 'Doesn't it hurt?' 'Only if you get your thumbs caught between the bricks!'

Liz - you're from Yorkshire so presumably you know about FWKs (Frame Work Knitters) and have eliminated them from your search for FHKs. Posted this 'just in case'. Regards, Anne

Thanks Lib, I think the woodman will be right as the son and Grandson were gardeners, but the other one is a man too, so I don't think it will be housekeeper, can you tell me which site you go on to find old occupations please?Thanks, Liz.

Found these on old occupation sites: WOODBREAKER A person who made wooden water casks. WOODRANGER A person in charge of the forest or woods. WOODREEVE A person in charge of the forest or woods. WOODWARD A person in charge of the forest or woods. ----------------- Woodbreaker: Made wooden casks Wood Ranger/Reeve/Ward/Man: Employed in maintenance & protection of woodlands FHK: Female house keeper!.... Does anyone know what a woodman did,also what do F H K or possibly J H K mean, a different profession, I have no idea, Thanks, Liz.
