What is Polly/Poll short for?

I have managed to trace all my grandmothers siblings except one .....I have only ever known her as Aunt Poll. What is Polly an abreviation of??? Its really frustrating not having the full set. Michaela |

In general that big explanation makes sense, but I should be very surprised if 'Paula' were really a variant. Paula is, manifestly, a feminine version of 'Paul' - and I believe that to be a separate name from 'Mary'! Christine |
