In general that big explanation makes sense, but I should be very surprised if 'Paula' were really a variant. Paula is, manifestly, a feminine version of 'Paul' - and I believe that to be a separate name from 'Mary'! Christine

Hi Michaela See the search box at the top of the tips page where it says 'you can enter specific text like 1901'? If you type Polly in there and click search it will bring up other threads asking the same question. You will then be able to see all previous answers to your question Jeanette x

I have managed to trace all my grandmothers siblings except one .....I have only ever known her as Aunt Poll. What is Polly an abreviation of??? Its really frustrating not having the full set. Michaela
