Yes it's right Joanne and he lived untill he was 80. Looked at the indexes and there are a few with that name. There's a registrar called Obed. John Gibbons in Cirencester who registed various of my rellies' bs and ds in the 1860s/70s. I imagine he couldn't be fagged to write out Obediah all the time. nell

Obediah Hawkswill is a character in the Sharpe Series of books by Bernard Cornwell. I have also seen it many times in census returns, GRO indexes and Parish records
