Was on here, went off (to do some work!) for an hour, come back, switch on and get Boot disk failure, insert disk. I just turned it off, switched on and its back to normal. But what does this signify??? Frightened the life out of me, thought my best friend had died on me.

Sounds like it's on its way out. I'd back everything up, just in case.

Sounds like you have left a floppy or CD in the drive

Heather Sometimes does that if you have left a CD or a Floppy in when you last turned it off....will then ask you to run scandisk. Also if you don;t shut down properly Jen

Heather - I JUST HAVE TO SAY - I LOVE your terminology - It fits very well with mine - The 'Coffe cup holder button' - WONDERFUL. , AND I remember lots of your relatives were afflicted by 'persistent hideyness' - PRICELESS. (just like mine!) You always make me smile. Dea XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXxxxxxxxx

Yes Dea, I am thinking of running a technophobs pc class - that is one of the terms I shall be printing on to the little exploded diagram of a pc! Thing is I read somewhere that emotionally everyone has a stop point where they plateau - I think that was about 13 years old for me. I still use very (juvenile) visual terms for everything - which annoys my husband but made me a fun mum I guess - Bless them, the boys (25 and 20) still refer to bakewell tarts as 'titty cakes' without any embarrassment!

Its the big red glace cherry in the middle of them Ann! Dea and Ann, thats the nicest thing Ive been told in a long time, I actually had a little tear spring to the corner of my eye - really. Thank you.
