That's all it says - CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. and Mrs. J. Mervyn Phillips on arrival of Pauletta. Both doing well. |

Thanks Rose. I was thinking there was an error with the OCR. Maybe it should have been Pauline or something |

Like you, not seeing a birth for a Pauletta Phillips in 1939. Several PaulettEs but no Phillips. |

I assume he is the Mr J Mervyn Phillips who is named in other news re music? Might that be his stage/professional name? eg this |

Well, his first wife was born Rhein which she changed to Rayne for stage. He was still married to her when he got with my grandmother. I know he later married a Dickinson but still trying to work out what happened in between times. That's why I searched for Pauletta without a surname in case she was only registered with her mother's name |

Yes, he was a musical director. Worked around the country in various theatres. The year was actually 1939, not 36. Just thought - maybe it is a Scottish birth |

That's a possibility I'll bear in mind. No Pauletta in Scotland either. This man - arrgh! |

I wonder if this might be Thelma going by her middle name in 1939? another couple of weeks and FMP will open the register to look. |

Just occurs to me, if Thelma B Rhein was born 1892, it's a bit unlikely she would have a (first?) child born 1939...maybe the Mrs Phillips mentioned is another lady altogether? |

My thoughts exactly. It seems he was a bit of a womaniser and there's no guarantee a wedding took place for somebody to pass themselves off as a married woman. As you can see from the records you've found, a lot of names were used |
