My efforts to trace the Woolham family back, in Bradford, have met with a problem.

The 1881 census I have includes my target George Frederick Arthur

My problem is that his prents are somewhat old for G F A to be their oldest child and in fact there are quite a lot more to choose from in FreeBMD for the years when the parents are the right age and a marriage to match. Unfortunately there are 2 Mary Ann and I wondered if the 1851 + 1861 could solve these mysteries?

Curiously the names Emma and Arthur have nothing in relationship column nor age and both names have been crossed out.

I was busy replying to Andy;s post on one of my other threads!

I have been trying to find Mary Ann Woolhams (nee Poole) birth in IGI without success and I wondered whether she specified a place of birth in the 1851 census please and was her father, Thomas Poole - Sadler still alive in that census?

Mary Ann and family from 1841. Thomas is a Saddler so looks correct

Thank you Margee, the little grey cells must have been short of coffee this morning when I looked at the 1851 census. I recognised that the newly weds and their children were lodgers but the fact they were Mary Ann's family didn't register - sorry

Apologies safc for not acknowledging your post, I think the cold must still be effecting my mental performance!

I don't know why they list them as lodgers when it should be daughter and son-in-law but I've seen it done that way quite often.

At first I thought this was the birth and death of the daughter Hannah, as the DOB fits with her being 9 months in 1861 census:

Looking again at the 1871 posted earlier by Margee, the Margaret H in the transcription, is actually Margaret H E on the image - but the age is given as 15, when she should be 10 or 11.

So I think the age on 1871 census is wrong, and that Margaret H E is the Hannah in 1861,as well as the Emma in 1871, as the birth and death records agree with her age in 1861.

I think the crossed out Emma in the line below Margaret is a repeat entry for her, as she may have been known by her middle name of Emma.

Similarly, George F in 1871 is actually George F A, so he will be the Arthur who has been crossed out in the line below.
