Having got my tree back to 1563 when the surname is Gover I am told during the 16th century the name Govier was change to Gover . This is when the Gover change there name because of French Protestant Donomination in the 16th century when the Govier family flee France and arrived in Swanage in Dorset.they also fled to Somerset , My side is from Swanage If any one knows when the Govier family arrive It will be so helpful Regards: Steve Gover |

This is the earliest reference to the name I can find on Ancestry although the name might be mis-transcribed as the writing is very difficult to read. The same name appears on the image on 8th Nov 1554 although it doesn't appear to have been transcribe. I think that is for a burial: |

Ancestry also has baptisms for the name going back to 1540 but not in Dorset. It also has a will for Agnes Gover dated 1520 although the 2nd page has probate granted 12 Sept 1625 |

I taken the "answered" off as when members see it they think you've got the answers you are looking for - you only mark your initial posting "answered" when you have all the info you need |
