Whilst doing my family tree, I was told that my deceased father had 2 dead amongst his siblings who died as children. Whilst trying to find one of them I researched a James Newry Callan. He turned out to be the son of my great uncle. Sent for birth certificate. Born 1/1/1910 19 Nesbitt street Shotton Colliery and died same year. Parents Joseph Callan and Margaret Jane ( nee Humble). Family records show Joseph married to Mary Jane Magee ( Mcgee). Did some research. He first married Mary but she died aged about 25. On the census in 1911 we have Joseph snr and Margaret. Joseph aged 9,William aged 7 ( they are marked as his children) Agnes 6 weeks against Margaret and one child as died ( James Newry). After this I can't find any trace of the children. I have checked WW1 records and can't find a match. Looked for marriages and deaths. Family has a mining/publican background. County Durham & Northumberland. Would like to know what happened to them, and if there were any more. Any ideas. |

I wonder if this is Margaret's death? Not what you are after exactly, but every little helps as they say! |

Thanks. So annoying that they didn't put DOB on the census. Age all depends on what part of year you were born. There aren't many with the name Joseph Callan, I will try to investigate that, if its possible. Will also look at Margaret's death. Now for Agnes and William. |

Agnes is born in 1911. That marriage would make her 13 at the time of marriage! Can't be her. |

Greyghost - don't worry, I found that marriage and was whoo hoo, easy, then looked at the date.. did that earlier in the evening. Would be awful if all of these children died fairly young |

Going back to the Deaths at Sea transcriptions posted above, the image for the records gives his last place of abode as 122 Bearing Street, South Shields (I think this should actually be Baring Street - runs off Ocean Road). |

This 1911 census for Audrey McRitchie matches the last abode address for Joseph Callan in 1926: |

Just to tidy up the Callan/McRitchie angle: |
