Alexander Holliday born in Hexham had no connection to Liverpool this is a different family who originated from that city.

If you think that this family is definately not your Alexander, then are you sure that your Alexander joined the Navy as the naval records seem to fit with above family.
Maybe then your Alexander did something else????

Having had a clea look of census returns etc I see now that two Alexander Holliday's appear to have been in the US at the same time on various boats, one born in Hexham and the other Liverpool.
