this is a bit confusing you say its hilda may sharp you are looking for there is only one born 1904 in somerset and the 1911 census you have could be her they dont always put middle names on census so if its not the hilda may i posted then you must have the wrong birth date for your hilda and her middle name is not may

This is the only death for a Hilda Chilcott that I can find registered in Somerset


I wonder if this is her, and the informant did not know her true age ......... not unusual :-)

There are two Public Family Trees on ancestry that have Hilda May Sharp

Neither has a link to a baptism ............. and I can't see a baptism either

One says Hilda married Alfred John Chilcott, the other says Alfred James Chilcott. They do have the same marriage information from freebmd :-)

Hello Jude,

I am trying to help a friend who was born in England but now lives in Australia.

I have been on the phone to her and she has given me a list of children born to the couple Hilda Sharp and Alfred John Chilcott married in 1921



I have Alice born 1922, Janet 1923 who was my friends mother, Reginald 1926, Gwendoline 1929, all born in Long Ashton,

also Brinley 1930, Bernice 1932, Terence 1936 born Bristol...


She does not have any certs. yet, she remembers her grandmother Hilda Sharp being alive in the 1950"s, when she wrote this name down for me she named her Hilda Sharpe.

She thinks her grandmother died in the 1960's ? but not sure.

She told me her grandmother had married an Alfred J. Chilcott.

Unless you know that Hilda stayed with Alfred, there are several marriages for Hilda M Chilcott but all before Alfred's death.

Are you sure she was born 1904? She married at 17?

I think you need the marriage certificate to confirm her age and father's name.

One of the sons Brinley is on the electoral rolls fro Bristol to 2004.

Looks like they had 6 children from1926 up to 1942 all Bristol area

Did they stay together ? Have you got Alfred's death cert to see who the informant was

Thanks for this help, I do have her on the 1911 census as age 7 which makes it right for being born 1904.

1911 census Hilda Sharp, born 1904 Taunton Somerset.

Her father died in 1909 and her mother re married in 1910 to a John Millard so she is a Step daughter on the 1911 but they still live in Taunton.


I wonder if Hilda married again after the death of her husband Alfred Chilcott

I've looked and looked, but not found a death for her .......... the name is not as uncommon as one might think!

I did find this one, but the age is wrong. I did also check it out a little further and firmly believe it is NOT "your" Hilda

Thanks for your help, yes that must be the death of husband Alfred Chilcott in 1969 so I think it is likely that Hilda Died in that area.

No did not leave the country as far as I know.
