I am trying to find the family of James Glendenning, born 1887, died 1959, Co. Durham. I have him at 24 in the 1911 census and think I have found him at 14 in the 1901 census, but cannot find the family in any other census. I know he had two brothers called Robert and Joseph, Robert dying in a mining accident at the age of 16. I know there were other sibling, but not aware of their names. There was also a story that his brothers had a business, Glendenning Ales and this later had something to do with Victoria Wines, although there was also a story that they sold to Vaux Breweries. They seem to have dropped off the end of the world, this has been driving me crazy, on and off, can anyone shed any light on this. Thanks in advance. |

The 1959 death is for James Robert |

Yes Claire - I was just looking into that but if the 1911 is correct then it does look like the family in 1891 which includes his sister Charlotte wo married John William Golphin ??? |

There's this death of a Robert aged 16 - could this be him? Age-wise, it would fit with the 1901 census posted by Claire |

Can't see a birth record for a James A (as per 1891 census I posted). Must be a mistake by the clerk |

Thank you so much for your replies, I was not expecting to hear from anyone so soon and with so much info. I am not 100% sure that I had the right family to begin with, it was just that the mother and father's names appeared to be correct and the age of James was correct, also as there was an Ale business within the family, it looked like, the father being a manager of a public house, could fit in. The 24 year old James I found in the 1901 census and he was on his own, possible his wife Elizabeth was elsewhere. He was a coal miner. His father could also have been a coal miner. James could also have had the names John and Robert. Clair, you have the right James's death, but there are some there that can not be the right families. |

The only Glendenning death on the Durham Mining Museum site who was 16 was a John Glendenning who was killed in 1909. His father John was also killed in the same mine explosion in 1909. |
