No Rambling Rose, have checked Walsall. Just wondering if she called herself Mary Ann, but that was not her given name........Just a long shot :-S

Could be Stafford Jude, but I didn't think it looked like the S ?

It's not Walsall...if you go five lines up to Rose Bullinger in the original image, she was born in Walsall and it just don't look the same! I did wonder if it could be Stafford?

1871 census has Patrick Butler a boarder born @ 1849 leek,is that brother to Thomas??

Patrick Butler born @ 1851 died 1919 Darlington.

Had another look at that it certainly isn't 'Shifford' I think it could be Walsall, in which case maybe look at this one?

The person who has corrected the name on the 1891 has corrected the age also to 18 , sorry forgot to add that myself

The 1891 def says Staffordshire, but the actual place name is very indistinct.

Thomas was according to the 1881 born Staffordshire...on this 1891 it suggests Mary Ann was also? Perhaps while visiting his parents?? worth a look

Have contacted the Darlington Register office more than once, and they still tell me they do not have a copy of her Birth Certificate!!

Will have to put my thinking cap on again

No births for Mary Ann in Sheffield 1872-1874, so it looks more likely that the Darlington birth is possible?

Yes that is correct. My Gr Grandmother whom I am looking for married James Abel in Darlington in 1897. Her father Thomas was deceased at the time of the marriage

Fathers name was Thomas Butler,but was deceased at the time of her marriage in 1897

Hi Rambling Rose...........Yes the above info is correct. Before her mother married Thomas Butler, she was married to Thomas Johnson. they were married in Sheffield.......It may help it may not
