The WWI record has been digitised and the original is available at NAA RecordSearch. It definitely says 24 and 9/12 (9 months). |

I have the service details but am awaiting the originals. What was the enlistment age for WW1? I doubt it would have been necessary to lie about his age at that point., he was either 21 or 23. The date of birth stands on several of his personal documents but adoption can't be ruled out as a possibilty. Which is why i am trying to track parents and relocation from England to Australia. So far the information I have received is what I have already located (With the exception of the Manders-Tomkings lead). I can't get a solid link between possible parents. I am also awaiting marriage certificate. |

Andrew , the banns info looks the most promising so far. Excellent thank you. I have come across Rachel Maunders before but no mention of a son called Robert in the census. I will follow up the Manders/Tomkings lead. |

Thanks Ann Of Green Gables, i have spent many hours on the census docs but the dates, family members aren't adding up. I'm awaiting my grandad's death certificate, and full service records to try and shed light. Robert ,Francis and Herbert were popular names in the Maunders clan so i am running up some very blind alleys. |
