Gwyn in Kent Report 30 Sep 2024 15:50

Oh Ann. So sorry to hear about your cancelled appointment. I think Vera's right. They have messed up :-|
Apart from having to reschedule, I know you would feel you are messing up Cynth's day too, so I think going out for lunch was a great idea.
How maddening, because of course you now have to go through all the fuss of rebooking and then thinking about THAT appointment.
I hope they are quick to reschedule at a time that suits you.

Oh Ann, that is so annoying. It sounds as though someone slipped up and didn’t message you. When one of my appointments was cancelled I was sent a text, an email and a letter in the post. I’m sure you wouldn’t have missed seeing a message from them if they had sent one. It’s unfair on Cynth too but I’m sure she appreciated you buying her lunch. I hope you won’t have to wait long for a new appointment.

It wasn’t long before the rain came back and it was heavy for a while.but is just light rain again now. The iPad is telling me it is going to stop in 39 minutes. I’d love to know how they can be so exact.

AnninGlos Report 30 Sep 2024 14:32

not the day I planned
You are not going to believe this. Made good time and got to GRH with ten minutes to spare.

Logging on to the arrivals machine it would not accept my year of birth. so I went to the reception near ENT and told them. They told me the appointment was cancelled He is not holding any clinics today and apparently they left a message (she didn't say what sort. So I checked, no on line messages (and previously they have covered all bases, email, messenger, NHS messages and answer phone. Nothing on line and I know I have not had a message on the answer phone cancelling the appointment.
To say I was cross is an understatement. I texted Cynth who was going to pick me up, she had got as far as Tesco so just turned round and came back for me. I was so cross and annoyed at a wasted day that I suggested we went to Norton and I treated her to lunch (yes, large toasties and chips, make a bad day a really bad day) and they were really nice so it ended ok anyway Now I just have to get in contact with the times I am not available for a re-match.

I always fnd it amazing that when you have a splinter or thorn in your finger and it give so much pain even if you touch it on something but as soon as you can get it out, as I have just done, it dos'nt hurt at all. Truely amazing....... :-D

The wind has dropped quite a bit and the rain is very light now but I’m not holding my breath. I think we’re going to get more wind and rain this afternoon. I hope you’re not having to contend with 50 mph gusts Gwyn. I think our wind speed earlier was about 35 mph and that was bad enough. I did look at the tomatoes earlier and they look OK. They are in pots round the side of the house and against a wall so a bit sheltered.

I’ve done 3 loads of washing this morning and the machine is now on a maintenance wash which I put on every 3 months. The tumble dryer is full and is on as well and now the heating is also on the electricity bill will be soaring..

I’m now sitting up on the bed with my pillows and wheat bag as my back is quite bad this morning. I was told 6 weeks so I can’t expect it to be better yet but I’m impatient and want someone to come along and wave a magic wand.

If AnnG was seen on time she’s probably on her way home now. Fingers crossed that it has all gone well for her.

Raining a bit here on and off still a bit windy. My decking is really slippery today with it being wet and I really need to pressure wash it but can't get the get up and go to do it.

I shut my little greenhouse up two days ago and am glad I did otherwise it would have been destroyed and toms with it. The Sungold are ripening and the Shirley but the BIG ones are only just showing a tinge so I do hope thye ripen a bit more as thye are always better ripening on the plants.

Ann should be there now and I hope she gets seen quickly and that everything is healing well. <3

Morning all,

Raining here but no wind yet I think it should be like this until this evening .

Anng hope all goes well today at the hospital and you come away with good results .

Just put washing in the machine and I have another load to go in after ,it will all go on the airer in ths back bedroom.

SuffolkVera Report 30 Sep 2024 09:07

I hope the appointment goes well AnnG and the doctor says everything is healing as it should. Will be thinking of you.

It’s pretty wild out there; very wet and VERY windy. Apparently it’s 14 degrees but only feels like 7 because of the wind. I don’t know why I’ve been worrying about the garden as it’s now a flattened mess. I haven’t yet ventured out to look at the tomato plants.

I have appointments tomorrow and Wednesday so I had better do the washing today. It’ll have to be the tumble dryer and indoor airers again :-(

Morning girls,

Nice to see you this morning Gwyn it sounds like you have the wild wind as you put it the same as we had Saturday and Sunday. It blew my Begonia over so I left it on its side.

Yes we are all thinking of you today Anng and will be there in thought for good results.

Its 14 degrees here and pc says rain yellow warning so I better do the girls before it starts raining.

Must ring for my scripts today too as I forgot on Friday.

Gwyn in Kent Report 30 Sep 2024 08:36

Hoping all goes well today AnnG and the team are happy with the progress of your healing.

A really wild night here with the wind driving the rain against the windows. I think the rain is easing a bit, but we are forecast gusts of about 50 mph for much of the day, so it's going to be bleak for anyone who needs to go out.Supposedly 15 degrees at the moment, but the wild wind makes one feel colder.

I might sit down and do some online safeguarding training for school. It's just to update my previous course, so hopefully will be straight forward.
I want to prepare all the veg. for the casserole for our main meal this evening too, but the peelings might have to wait to go out to the compost bin until the weather eases :-|

AnninGlos Report 29 Sep 2024 21:02

Yes I remarked on them, frightening the times this is happening. Several houses in a small road on a housing estate were flooded last week. No river nearby, caused by blocked drains zi think, couldn’t cope

Annx

Annx Report 29 Sep 2024 19:12

I think that may have been why he was thinking of blood tests AnnG. I know things like calcium can cause stones and OH has calcium tablets prescribed and eats sardines with bones every week as well as his cereal swimming to the brim of the dish in milk. It's skimmed as well so has more calcium.

I've sent a couple of photos of the floods in the paper.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 29 Sep 2024 16:35

He possibly thought it was diet Ann.

Yes I am hoping the new remote will be OK. I know I will need a new TV at some point but it still has a lovely picture and I can do without the hassle.

Annx

Annx Report 29 Sep 2024 16:18

Afternoon All,

Sunny and 13 degrees here with the promised rain due shortly. Good job OH got the washing put out and it dried and is put away now. There are two more loads to do though and I think rain is forecast the next few days.

Yes, kidney stones can be very nasty as I had a friend who had one and said it was worse pain than childbirth. OH still thinks it is muscular though and when he pegged out the washing it seemed to set it off so he may be right. We'll be straight to A&E if it gets worse, but it's settled down again now. He had a migraine travelling back from Worcester yesterday so had to drive extra carefully and went to bed after having something to eat.

I hope everyone's aches and pains soon ease. I wonder whether the damp weather is making things worse? My knees seem to be a bit better though. It helps going out of the front door down the step backwards as I don't twist my knees turning. I must have a go with these compression stockings, but am not sure how I will manage to get them on very easily with knees that crunch and grate and hurt if I bend them much. I think losing some weight is the best way forward really.

Mandy, the floods seemed worse in some of the fields yesterday, but less in other places as the water level in the brook in the next village was about a foot lower. The rain that's forecast can only make things worse again though. OH showed me the pictures of the floods in the local paper yesterday and some roads in the city were covered all across and a wildlife park that had several lakes from old sand workings was just one big lake with water lapping across the access road to it. We have never known it as bad before. All the building of new houses is making things worse too. When they build the big warehouses the water from those is planned to run under the main road and into the river as well.

I hope the new remote is ok AnnG and works the tv ok. It's always a relief when you try something and it works ok.

Vera just be careful and leave the garden a bit longer as 'the voice' said. You don't want to make things worse. You could perhaps consider one of those outdoor plastic storage boxes for your cushions as well and keep it in the garage. It's good that the man you went to see is able to be entertaining people again as he has had a tough time with his health.

The wind hasn't reached us here yet Mel but I expect it's on his way. I had to smile at OH as I bought some white eggs the other day. Can you believe he didn't know white chickens laid white eggs! I must ask him what he thought did lay white eggs! :-)

AnninGlos Report 29 Sep 2024 15:24

it is showing 13 degrees here but feels colder with a cold wind.

I seem to have run around chasing my tail today and it is now well after 3pm. Looking back I suppose I have done lots of small jobs, finished packing up one set of presents for Hampshire, cooked veg for this evening, done a bit of photography group admin, chatted to daughter via email, Nothing very strenuous but I feel really tired. not enough sleep last night obviously.
Trying not to give myself time to think about the appointment tomorrow.

Vera that sounds an interesting talk but I have never heard of hi, sorry. I rarely for pretty obvious reasons, listen to the radio these days.

Mandy, it sounds as if you need to rest for a few days, hope you recover your energy soon.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Sep 2024 14:53

That was nice to see someone you had previously heard on the radio. I wonder if he found his birth parents or mother at least.

I have been fishing leaves out of the pond all morning and theres going to be lot of sticks to pick up off the orchard lawn that have blown off the ash tree.

Had'nt realised the time and I must eat something as I thought I was hungry.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 29 Sep 2024 13:56

Afternoon all

According to the forecast it’s 14 degrees with sunny spells and a moderate breeze. Well, no-one told the sun as he hasn’t got out of bed this morning, the moderate breeze is a strong, gusty wind and it’s far too chilly to be 14 degrees!

I hope your new remote works OK when it comes AnnG.

Mandy, I am being very good. Apart from my exercises, all I have done this morning is prepare our dinner which is now cooking for 2 pm. I was looking at some troughs near the back door that contain busy lizzies and antirhinums that are past their best when this voice behind me said “Don’t even think about it” so I don’t think I will be allowed to do anything in the garden.

I hope your OH’s pain is easier today Annx. It sounds as if he needs a doctor to check him over sooner rather than later. Physician associates are not going to be any good if they just cause more delay, as you say, and if he suspects a kidney stone or infection then it should be looked at quickly. Yes, it was a surprise sitting next to my dentist at the theatre. I had seen her twice the previous week getting my plate repaired and I have an appointment in 5 weeks for a check up. She amazes me as she looks about 28 but must be more like 48 as she has been working at that surgery since 1998. We went to see Mark Steel - Work in Progress. Many people don’t seem to know him, probably because he is on radio a lot more than tv. He’s a writer, broadcaster, comedian. He used to do a show called Mark Steel’s in town, where he visited towns and with a local audience would talk and joke about their town. He’s been out of action for a while as he has had neck and throat cancer and is now starting to come back and is trying out ideas in smaller theatres. He was very funny and it was great value for money. All the tickets were £15 and the show was 2.5 hours with only one very short interval. I could have done with a little less swearing which you don’t get on the radio shows but they are probably censored. On a flight to Russia in 2017.i listened to a serious broadcast by Mark Steel about his search for his birth mother (he was adopted). It was very emotional and also very interesting from a genealogical point of view.

Our dinner is ready and needs dishing up so I’d better finish. Hope you are all having a nice Sunday.

Thanks Mel I have found and ordered the correct one.

Mandy I just couldn't find the on off switch last night (it was 11 o'clock! but found the TV book this morning and found the on/off switch so OK for now.
