I'd just set off for the shop and half a mile from home the rain started spitting. By the time I reached the shop it had stopped. I pulled up by the little brook after I'd got my paper and a few bits to read some of it. Then I saw a little Squirrel scamper over the road with something in his mouth. He ran across the little bridge over the brook and into the garden of a house. A few minutes later he was back and racing back to a tree in a carpark opposite. He was going through leaves, grass and twigs under the tree and then was racing back across the road and under my car before crossing the bridge again and disappearing. He must have fetched about 8 nuts of some sort while I was there. I'd seen the tortoiseshell cat that lives in the house next to the carpark between his travels, but she didn't seem to have spotted him or wasn't interested. It started to pour with rain then but has stopped again now.

That's good you are finding the can opener a much better one Mandy. I've not tried it in the slow cooker but I imagine your gammon will turn out nice and tender and the apple cider and dugar should make it tasty too..

Yes it looks dull and miserable outside here AnnG.

Oh heck, OH is back! He thought he would be going straight to a footie match nearby afterwards and I was just going to disinfect all the plugholes while he's out. Better see how he got on and put the kettle on.

Mandy in the window of our local charity shop there were two of 'your' gnomes. Both new but no price on them one was a pumpkin (haloween) and the other had skies.

Oh that was lucky Anng getting there and back in the dry ,it's gone very dark here now and looks like it's going to tip down.

Oh Ann yes look at the date on the chocs you might have to eat them if the date is up :-D

I have the slow cooker on with my piece of gammon cooking in brown sugar and apple cider so I'll see what it comes out like later .

Can opener worked like a dream ,we had tuna sandwich again just to see how it worked .

Oh now raining I just saw someone with a brolly go past .

Afternoon All,

Sunny and nice here at present but I see rain is due around 4.00pm lasting all night so there could be flooded fields again.

Sorry you haven't been well Vera and I hope taking it easy and resting will improve your back today. Be careful putting your delivery away. It's very easy to undo progress isn't it.

Yesterday the road to and from the village past the end of our close was gridlocked both ways in the morning and the island it leads to on the main road,3 houses down from our close had all three lanes around it at a standstill too as well as queues in the three other roads leading to it. OH was in a tizzy as he was going to meetings in the afternoon and at teatime and wondered how long it was going to take to get out of the gridlock each time. We managed the short distance to the island and did our errand and stayed for a coffee and took a different route to the shop, hoping it might clear. Well luckily it did, but we still don't know what caused it.

I tell OH to have a mooch round the garden to get some vitamin D as well Mandy. :-D He can't wear shorts or have no socks, as he comes out in huge red rashes on his legs and feet, even with just a bit of sun, but luckily his arms are fine. We are guilty of getting extra bits and bought a box of Cadbury's Dairy Milk chocs to put by for Christmas last week as they were reduced to £4.50. I must check if there's a best before date in case we have to eat them soon! lol. :-D

It's a good job done getting your boiler mended Mel. We stayed in a cottage in Anglesey years ago that had an oil tank in a little room off the kitchen and it reeked of oil in the kitchen. It was so bad we kept out of the kitchen as much as possible.

OH is off to a council to attend a hearing soon, so I'd better pop to the shop and see If I am inspired as to what to eat when he gets back. We've just had poached eggs on toast as he never likes much to eat before this kind of meeting, as you can't just pop out if needs be.

It's looking more gloomy now so I hope you aren't sending your rain this way early Mel! I see you were very lucky rainwise for your walk to the hairdresser and back and got the bins in for Cynth just in time too AnnG. I have to be very careful on uneven paving too. So many pavements are in poor repair now.

AnninGlos Report 8 Oct 2024 12:13

It poured with rain and was very dark Just before I left for the hairdresser. It had stopped when I left and stayed dry until I got there and the sun came out. Thai in itself made walking difficult as everywhere was wet and the sun was reflecting in all the surfaces. The pavements are very uneven so it was hard walking, watching my feet and trying to see where I was going. When I came out of the hairdressers it was dry and the walk home was in the dry, no sun. As I got to Cynth's and took her recycling bin and food bin in I felt a spit of rain, Put my bins in and opened the front door. By the time I had closed it it was lashing down again, So I was very lucky today.

Good morning

Dull and drizzly here. I hope it’s dry for your hair appointment AnnG. It’s good you got your boiler sorted Mel. I’m still in bed and trying to pull myself together after an iffy night. I’ve had a cup of tea so I’ll get up now. No plans for the day apart from a Sainsbury’s delivery. Might bbl.

Good morning all, 12 degrees here and gloomy looking. I am still trying to bed in the new heat pump, wonder how long that will take. doing a towel wash, doing it early as I have a hair appointment later. Rain is forecast which is no surprise, it often is when I have to walk to the hair dressers.

I’m here. Thank you for your concern ladies. My back is now improving and I’ve managed without pain killers today but I have been unwell with other problems for a couple of days. I didn’t want to bore you with my medical issues and haven’t had much else to write about as I haven’t been fit enough to do very much so I haven’t posted. I’m going to bed now and will try and post tomorrow.

No I forgot about the loo in the bathroom but really Chris should came and see to that as that job cost me £156.

We've had rain tonight it started before dark.

Now where is our Vera? I do hope she is ok and has just been busy. Sending love <3

Ann we use to have about five doctors now we're down to two and they seem to push everyone onto the nurse practitioner ,they want everyone to fill in the form online and if you can't do that the receptionist will fill it in for you, all these questions take time to answer so no wonder no one can get through and then get stuck in these long queues
I hope he can get to see a doctor.
You can see why A&E is so clogged up and people are willing to sit for hours to be seen when the doctors won't see them ,every things going to pot.

Oh nothing worse than an oil smell Mel but he's done a good job by the sound of things ,did you ask him about ths loo .

My can opener came and looks nice and sturdy .

Well the black clouds never had any rain in them its been a nice warm sunny afternoon, I said to Colin we need to get out there to stock up on our vitamin D .

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Oct 2024 17:24

Boiler man went about 5 mins ago. It seems I had a small leak in the boiler cupboard and thats why I could smell oil and he cleaned out all the flue and even outside it dos'nt smell now when I go out for a ciggy. He also put me an alarm in the cupboard and told me if it goes off to turn the boiler off right away. He said cos its an old boiler. I also asked him if he could stop the tap dripping in the little loo and he did that for me too as it was getting so bad dripping one after the other. I gave him my packet of tap washers and I think he must have taken them with him cos I can't find tham now he's gone. So now I am up and running again but he did'nt take the tigger loop out of the cupboard and that should be outside. Stinks of oil in here at the mo but he said it woud go off in a couple of days. I may just wash that bit of the carpet.

Afternoon All,

Lovely sunny, warm day although black clouds came over earlier.

It sounds like you have been a 'natterbox' this morning Mel, first Auntie Joy then Em, but it is good to have a catchup and chat. Is it the boilerman you were going to ask about the toilet as well? I'm losing the plot!

That's great Paul came and you should be able to get that wash done now before you go away AnnG. You'll probably sleep better still tonight now it will be fixed.

Mandy, it's a good way to just chip away at clearing and sorting the shed, less tiring and there's only so much at a time you can take to the tip. Yes I noticed no Vera yeasterday too. I hope her back is okay.

OH was on the phone to get a GP appointment at 8.00 am this morning to find he was No 36 in the queue! He got them to ring back and they they said all the appointments were taken and tried to get him to have a telephone appointment with the Physician Associate who'd put 'No Further Action' on his notes after the urine test came back clear, or a telephone appointment with a nurse! He'd explained he was still in pain and hadn't had a diagnosis or any treatment yet, (how on earth can anyone do a physical examination over the phone??) He said he needed to know why the blood tests the Physician Associate said he needed had been cancelled and the receptionist said the nurses wouldn't be available to do any blood tests till the end of this month anyway as they were doing Flu and Covid jabs now. Like he originally planned he is going there to queue before they open tomorrow. Things seem to be getting worse, but despite nurses and these Associate Physicians taking some of the GP workload, the effect doesn't seem to be freeing up more appointments, as 6 of our 9 GPs work part time now.

Better have another tidy up in here as it is recycling bin collection tomorrow. OH is just back so would like a COT with me I expect so that better be first. He's out again later as well.
