Mo
The buses have been re-routed on the campus ..................... they will be going all the way around the OUTSIDE of the campus, with NO stops allowed for passengers to get on and off. They will end up at the normal terminus, so it's really like doing 3 sides of a square rather than just one side.
It's about an extra 5 km ...... so why no stops????
Elsewhere ...... there are NO-GO red zones around every one of the venues, pedestrians only allowed, and in many areas, only with tickets to an event at that venue.
No-one is allowed to drive on those streets except for vehicles for the IOC members and some major sponsors. Buses re-routed if necessary, no taxis allowed, no private cars driving up to the door to drop off a handicapped person. Not quite sure what they are doing about that ........... the Games are supposed to be fully accessible, but all they have suggested so far is contact the HandiDart service, they will be allowed to drive up to the door.
Just heard this morning there are over 13,000 police and armed forces personnel, plus private security firms, around Vancouver and Whistler. Some people have complained it is like being in an armed camp.
The venues are surrounded by 2 or 3 rows of wire fences, camouflaged by blue banners with Olympic Games 2010 emblazoned on them. Everyone then has to go through a security gate, just like going through security at the airport. Restrictions on what you can take in ....... no food or drink at Vancouver indoor venues for example.
it's all really quite horrifying .................... but everyone is scared of terrorist activity.

Hi again, Huia just seen your post, so pleased that your son and daughter -in-law found that Phil was the best that they had seen him for a long time. Hope you enjoy the next couple of days with your son and daughter-in-law. Take care!
Mo, glad that Liz is alright, I haven't seen her on the message boards for a few days. I don't wear a hat myself, but Alun bought himself one before Christmas, he feels the cold more now that he's going thin on top. I've got use to seeing him in it now, but he did look funny to start with. As long as he's warm, that's the main thing.

Oh my lord, are you two psychic,Sylvia and Sallie. I was wondering what had happened to you both. All we need now is for Marie to log in,and that would be soooo spooky. I did have darts last night Sallie, and guess what we won again. We are in the middle off the league table, for the team games, but we were second in the pairs,so we are hoping with our win last night,to have gone top. I know it's only a piece off plastic,as a trophy, but it would be nice to be winning something again. They have said that we,in Kent will get a good downpour off snow tonight Sallie. Sylvia,by the time you get to have your BP done,it will probably be sky high, from trying to find your way there. How can they be so inconsiderate to residents. Will they re-route the buses,to arrive at the normal destinations. Oh stupid me,I have just read the thread again, and you have explained about the buses. I dare say the people living near the venues here, will have the same problems as you,in 2012. I am just grateful to live a long way away from it all.

I'm here!
enjoying the sunshine, and watching the snowdrops, crocuses etc!
Fortunately, the temperature is dropping on Cypress Mountain, so that means they can probably start making snow ready for the start of the Games. I think the first games event is on Saturday, the Openng Ceremony is Friday. There's loads and laods of snow for the events being held in Whistler, that's the traditional events. Cypress has the "newer" events of snowboard and aerial ski
I have to venture out to the university tomorrow for a doctor's appointment (bp check-up) ..... that could be something of an adventure. One major road has been completely closed 'cos it runs past one of the venues where women's hockey will take place. That means all the buses that run along that route have had to be diverted. Guess which buses (choice of 3) I take? Yep! All 3 of them are affected. It will mean a longer walk for me.
Main problem is actually going to be ................. can OH find out how to get to the parkade he usually uses when he meets me at the doc's, and then can we get off campus!
When you think that we have been working at, walking around and driving around that campus since 1968 .................... and we're not sure how to get to and from, how on earth are strangers going to manage? The doc's office is right in the centre of campus as well!
Send out a search party if you haven't heard from me by Saturday!!!

Hi Girls.
I was beginning to think that you had all hibernated, with it being so quiet on here.
Mo, did you go to play darts last night? If you did, I hope your team won. Hope you and Roly are both okay, and not feeling too cold. They have given out more snow for us too, although it looks as though we are on the edge of it, so hopefully we won't get too much. Hope all is going along okay for your granddaughter and nephew.
Jean, I hope all is well with you, J and D. Don't worry about the mags, there's no rush for them. Pleased to hear that you have got some new flooring for your kitchen. Have you got someone to fit it for you? We need some new flooring in our bathroom, but not too sure what I want in there, so I'll have to have a good think about it. Looks as though you've had a bit of a spending spree today, Jean, I bet you enjoyed it, even though you didn't buy anything for yourself.
Sylvia, how are things with you and your hubby? Alun and I were watching a report on News 24 last night, about how a lot of people in Vancouver are not happy about having the Winter Olympics held there. It was very interesting. Have you had any snow over the last few days?
Ann, how are you getting on with your scrap pages? I'm very slow at the moment, I don't think that I'm fully in the mood for it. Read your Scrapbooking thread, Daff seems to have had a good spending spree buying lots of craft stuff.
Hope all is well with Marie, Huia, Marilyn and all our absent friends.
Speak to you all soon.
Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Thats good news, about Phil ,Huia. It must be nice for you to have your son visiting you. My OH,had haemmorages (sp) behind the eye as well Huia. But the hospital said he was not to worry about it,and to just keep an eye on it. Oh no, there was no pun intended then. Good news about the glaucoma as well. Jean I look a stupid nitwit in my hat,but I don't care,I am not going to suffer an earache, just to be fashionable. Huh,who am I kidding,....me,.....fashionable......those were the days, many moons ago. When I go out,I have more wrapping round me,than a turkey at christmas. I have my winter thermal vest, then a jumper and a cardigan on. Ooooh how sexy is that. It's a good job I had my kids when I was younger,as I would be to worn out by the time I had removed all my clothing now,and the moment would have passed. lol I wonder what has happened to Sallie,Sylvia and Marie. I have spoken to Liz on another thread,so I know she is still around. Bye for now. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Hello all.
My son and his wife arrived a couple of days ago in their campervan. Yesterday I had to go to my eye specialist in Auckland for a field visual test. I appear to have a small blind spot where a haemorrhage (sp?) had previously been detected, but the pressure from the glaucoma is down to 12, so that is good. Son and wife went for a drive, not sure where, but they visited Phil just after lunch. Son says it is the best they have seen him. They walked him around the enclosed garden. I have just had my breakfast and now am waiting for them to wake up.
Huia.

Hi Ann,I had begun to think I had killed this thread myself. Whats your weather like at the moment. It's as black as any thing here at the moment, and bitterly cold. So much so,that I went out and bought myself a hat today, and I hate wearing them. But I am fed up off feeling like my ears are going to drop off. They say we are due for more snow tonight or tommorrow, yuk.

Hi Mo, sorry didn't realise I had not been on for a couple of days. Sylvia, we always notify our CC company when we are going out of the country. I think it is happening more with internet sales. I have a feeling that even the so called secure sites are only as secure and honest as their employees make them..

Dont know if you remember but D had her card cloned a year ago, £1000 was taken, and only last week it happened again, the bank was very quick and only a small amount was taken, so she had new cards, it seems to be happening more and more these days. it is imperative to check your statements, and if there is any doubts get in touch with your bank, we had such a entry on ours this week couldnt recognise the name, we rang the bank and found out it was our transaction, but the name was slightly different to the one we used, so all was well.... but its a pain when it happens, waiting for new cards etc;she got her money refunded btw.
best to keep it under the mattress....lol....

Hi All, I think I've probably told you before, that someone had used my debit card number to buy a computer over the phone, took nearly £1,800 out of our account. I was staying with Richard for a few days so had to borrow some money off him because the bank had to cancel my card. The bank put the money back into our account.
Hope you are all well, speak to you later.

About 18 months ago I came home to a message on the answer machine from security at our credit card company, please phone them
Thinking it might be a scam, I did a bit of a dance around with them, but after 2 or 3 calls back and forth, and on other numbers etc, realised it was genuine
They wanted to know if I had been out of province in the previous week.
About $1500 (over £700) had been charged at 3 stores to the card in Quebec
They had caught this, and thought it "unusual activity".
They cancelled the card, and sent me a new one.
I had to then fill in a couple of forms for them, just to prove that it wasn't me ...... but they removed the charges from the card.
They didn't know whether the card had been cloned, or whether the number had been taken from a transaction that I had done and then used in a phone order.
BUT
...................... if you are going out of country, or even to another part of the same country, and think that you will be using a credit card, you should phone the company and tell them that you will be in such-and-such a location from such-and-such a date until xxxx.
Otherwise, they can spot "unusual activity" in France for example, and put a stop to your card.
Very embarassing if it happens to be the hotel you're staying in ............ or the restaurant where you've just had a super meal!

thank goodness for Credit card security. yesterday OH put £5 on a new mobile card (he fixes one sort of mobile and sells them on so this was different to his usual). Almost immediately he had a text alert saying to phone a number. Not believing it he phoned his card people and they said it was because he had put money on a card and was an auto alert.

Hello girls. What a day for our family. My daughter has had her bank card cloned. Someone phoned her to say that it had happened, but because off all the problems there has been with cloning, she did not take his word for it. She went on line, and then phoned them. Apparantly, they had done two phone top ups,on a company she does not use. And then they tried to buy things on line. The bank became wary off it,because thats the way they normally start these scams, and phoned my daughter. They put a stop on the card, and will be issuing her a new one. Apparantly the card could have been cloned up to a year ago,but they have only started using it this weekend. What sort off scumbags do this sort off things,I shall never know the answer to that. I hope you have all had a good weekend. Bye for now. Love to you all. Mo xxx

So no further forward with your nephew then Mo. No doubt you will find out sometime. Maybe he has been told but requested nobody else is told until he tells them.
Huia, I think here it could be about £60 for a filling but it depends what sort. root fillings cost more.
I had an extraction and at the same time had the teeth on that side (upper jaw only ) deep cleaned with the drill like machine and that cost £88.

Hi all. I thought I would update you on my nephew. I phoned my brother last night, and after giving him a good roasting,I found out, that they had phoned Kings College Hospital, and the local oncology centre,to try to find out what the prognosis is,for my nephew. And,understandably, they were told that they could not be told anything, because off patient confidentiality. And that they should ask when he start his radiotherapy. But, they do not want to upset my nephew,by asking questions in front off him. It's a catch twenty two situation I'm afraid. Liz,I really laughed at your night out, when I read it on the friendly thread. You must tell it to the girls on here. And yes I do believe we are very much alike, where our OH's are concerned. The frying pan was no good, nor the rolling pin. And as for the sauce bottle, well it was only a dream, but oh what a dream. lol
