Jean, sorry I thought you were going out tonight. So pleased to hear that they loved the album and the photo--but I guessed they would. I bet they'll now be showing it off to their family and friends--so you should feel very proud of yourself.

Ann, have a lovely weekend at your daughter's, hope the weather will stay dry and bright for you. Please wish your grandson a very Happy 18th Birthday, and that he'll enjoy the day. Also hope that you'll all enjoy your meal out on Saturday.

Take care everyone.

Love, Sallie.xx

Hi Everyone,

Huia, really sorry to hear that Phil has fallen out of bed again. Hope he's alright, and able to still shuffle about.

Debbie, it looks as though you have a very busy few days ahead of you. Please wish your Mum a Happy Birthday from me, and hope that she enjoys her day.

Liz, sorry to hear that you are having a trying time with your OH. It looks as though sometimes he enjoys causing you problems. You never know, he might see how stubborn he is, and change his miind about having the car.

Jean, hoping both you and J will have a lovely time out with your friends tonight. I bet you cant wait to see their faces when you give them their presents.

Mo, hope all is well with you and Roly. It's quite a nice day here again today, although I think it's a bit colder than it was yesterday. At least it 's dry and bright.

Julia, how are things with you? Have you started knitting something else, now that you have finished your jacket? Sorry, all questions!

Sylvia, how is the weather in Vancouver? If it's anything like our weather in the UK, it at least makes us feel that spring is on the way.

Hello to Ann, Marie and Marilyn.

Speak to you all later.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Hi All, what a mixed bunch we are on here at the moment. Thanks for the kind words about my F-in-L, no news at all so hubby will go and visit in a day or so. Huia, I know exactly what you mean when you say that you hope "it won't be long", we feel the same way in our situation. Every visiting time we will now treat as our last. Yes, we have told the children and they have been very good, asking some vey sensible questions and not making the situation into a silly affair. We have always been very honest and open with the children, and found it helps so much when we do have a situation like this or when my Dad was so very ill last year.

I wasn't being cheeky when I called Jean & Mo "characters", as they will know. We are all characters in our own right - just that some have more character than others :-)))

I've been out with my walking group today. It is blowing a gale here and we went on a cliff path, so were rather battered around by the elements. Our leader managed to get us a guided trip through a working farm, that was very interesting. We actually cut through all the fiields to pick up our original path. It was a very pleasant detour.

I hope that this finds you all as well as you can be. I'll be thinking of you all and will pop back onto here when I can. My mums birthday tomorrow so I will go and see her in the morning. Then the weekend sees me at various sporting events, so I may not be here till Monday. If that is the case, then I wish you all a very good weekend.

Take Care.

Huia, I am sorry to hear Phil had another tumble and hope he is ok, I assume from him still managing to walk albeit a shuffle, his pelvis has healed well enough? It must be very sad to see him so thin and going downhill so quickly now, he did seem to pick up a bit a while back but I suppose the lack of exercise has left his muscles wasting away now, doesn't that happen after a lot of use and then not a lot with muscles?
Bless him, hope he can remain comfortable and safe.

Debbie, sorry to read of your poor f.i.l. too. I was very lucky that neither of my parents suffered with Alzheimers, it was hard enough seeing my Dad hallucinating and rambling when on morphine at the end of his fight against Lung cancer, and I don't know how we would have coped if Mum had developed it, I would have had to move in with her and that would have been hard with a young son, my brothers wouldn't have helped I know.
It's a cruel illness that causes a long goodbye and I can only be grateful I didn't have to cope with it, and hope I don't develop it either.

Maria, glad you have the all clear, what a relief.

Jean, so happy you enjoyed your Anniversary and got such a good pressie lol

to everyone else, apologies that I can't do any more messages, am quite tired and having a taxing time with the o.h. at the mo, who does not seem keen to cycle to work again much as he needs to for health reasons, he is now saying if he leaves me the car I have to have used it! I don't want to be under that pressure, it was always here before he stopped cycling due to the cold weather and I coped with it as I wasn't feeling up to driving when I had the bang on the head, but I told him I don't know the day before whether I will feel well enough to go out, much less drive, due to the fm etc
Yet another thing to make life more awkward and pressured, he just can't stop being a pig!

take care all
love

This is a dementia hospital, Sylvia. He would probably hurt himself more if he tried to climb over the rails in the night. He does have the tendency to wake up at all sorts of hours and get up. When he was at home last year he would often make his breakfast in the wee small hours as he had no idea what the time was, but because he had woken he thought it was morning.

They have lowered his bed so it is not too far to fall. I gather it is a rule to let us know when our loved one has a fall, even if there is no real injury.

Lordy Huia!

Glad to hear that he wasn't hurt.

Don't they put rails around beds these days?

I had bed rails when I was in hospital for an operation in 1995 ................ they were raised every night for about 4 nights, or until I came off the very strong painkillers.

I had a phone call from Phils hospital just over 2 hours ago to say he had rolled out of bed again at 1.30 am. No serious injuries. He had been walking around and had had breakfast this morning before they phoned.

Hi Everyone,

Late looking on today, I've been fairly busy today, doing a couple of odd jobs, then went and did the weekly shop when Alun got home. Tonight my sister-in-law phoned to say that my brother is in hospital, he's had to have emergency surgery on his knee, the doctors weren't sure what was wrong, he was in terrible pain and his knee was very swollen, so they decided this evening to take him to theatre.

Jean, hope you and J had a lovely day. Enjoy yourself tomorrow night when you go out with your friends.

Julia, pleased that you finished your jacket without having to buy more wool, I looked at the pattern on the wbsite, it looks lovely but a bit too complicated for me. Have you been to the Bottle Kiln-- you'll have to let me know what it's like there--we always like to take Alun's sister and brother-in-law somewhere nice for a meal when they come to visit us.

Marie, it was nice to know that all your results are all cancer clear. Wonderful news!

Debbie, sorry to hear the news about your father-in-law, it's awful when it comes to this stage. I'll be thinking about you and your over this trying time.

Liz, great to know that things went well for you on Monday. It's good that you liked the cousellor and feel at ease with her. Things can only get better !

Sylvia, I hope you are feeling much better now, and are able to go out and about again. It must seem so much quieter in Vancouver, now that the Winter Olympics have finished.

Mo, Jennie is okay thank you, apart from a cold, so if it continues she won't be able to have her injection on Friday, so we hope it will have gone by then. The model railwy show went well on Sunday, both Alun and Michael said there were lots of people there, they started queuing outside about half an hour before the doors were open. One of the club members phoned Alun last night to let him know that they had made a good bit of money. So they're all happy about that!
Richard, has to go for an interview on Friday for an admin job, so we hope he'll be lucky.

Huia, sorry to hear about Phil, it must be so difficult for you to see him as he is. I really feel for you! As you say he's not the Phil that you have known over the years. I'll be thinking about you!

Hello to Ann and Marilyn, hope is all well with you both.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Belated congrats to Mo and Jean. I havent been concentrating too much on the threads lately when I have read them.

Debbie, my sympathies to your hubby. I think my son has mixed feelings about his dad's condition. It is so cruel to see somebody who used to be so active now a bare shell. Yesterday when I visited he had taken off his shirt and his arms were so thin, no muscle at all. When he tried to stand he was very shaky. I took his hands and tried to get him to walk but he could barely move his feet, and less than 7 months ago he had taken himself for a long walk lasting over 5 hours! Personally, I hope he doesnt last too long, much as I love him. It is just not him anymore.

Huia.

Morning Sallie and all, thought I'd let you know I have finished the cardie, with inches, yes inches of yarn to spare. Phew, at least I do not have to buy another ball at almost £18. I am coming to your town today Sallie to go to SpecSavers. And, because I do not want to look like Gok Wan, no disrespect meant here, I am taking my prescription down the street to the frame shop. Had a look in there last week and they sell Diedrie/ Blanche (Coronation St.) type frames, which suit me best. I have to wear glasses all the time, so it is like buying a winter coat to me, and part of my appearance. Hoping to go to the Bottle Kiln, for a spot of lunch, because I havn't been out for ages, and every time we drive past at the weekend, it is full to bursting.
