Hello everyone.
Good to see you back Ann. It sounds like you had a wonderful holiday.
I think sometimes it's better to get off the beaten tracks,and try new places.
Have you booked your next holiday yet./
It doesn't look like we will get a holiday this year. Finances won't allow for it.
Thats why I love to hear off everyone elses holidays. It makes me feel like I am there with them.
Sylvia,I thought that baby and wedding showers were always held before the events,not afterwards.
What a shame it is being held on your last day there.
Have they arranged for Matthews christening yet. Or are they not going to bother.?
I have had a very lazy day today. Roly did the Easter Egg run for us. I did not think it very fair to take these germs around the family.

Hi all


This is the first time I've been on the computer all day!

I had to go to the mall to do a bit of shopping, and managed to tire myself out. I did feel better after a little snooze in the chair


........ I've been told that we will be over there when a Baby Shower is held, arranged by m-i-l and sis-i-l so that we can attend.

Oh how I wish they were not so thoughtful!!!


Showers are not in our culture ........................ nor I must say in that of most of our friends. J only had one Wedding Shower, held by her best friend. I've heard of some brides having 8 or 10!


I am not looking forward to this Baby one ....... partly because it is being held on our last full day there, when we had hoped to a) have a quiet day with the family, and b) arrange our packing for the next 6 days of the trip!


Anyway, I thought I had better go and pick up a little gift .......... thinking at least it would be different if bought on this side than over there!


The weather was much calmer today, and no rain, even some sun, but colder than normal for this time of year.

Hi, As you saw Mo I am back, and thank you for the Easter card. Sorry, with being away I only sent a few cards out really early.

We had a lovely time, and we liked the area very much we were south of Malaga on the coast. The weather was lovely, like late spring, early summer here, warm and sunny nearly all week. A bit breezy the beginning of the week but seemed to get better when the clocks changed. we were an hour ahead of you which seemed strange. we had a nice apartment for the four of us with lovely views over Nerja and the sea. We drove around a lot (son in law drove the hire car) and went up to Granada and several other places. The food was great and we were surprised that it seemed to be cheaper than the Canaries. The flights out and back (Fly Be) worked well, no delays and very untraumatic. All in all a good week.

Sylvia,I hope your weather has brightened up a little. I know what it is like when bad weather hits the ferries,being so close to Dover and Folkestone.
In fact, yesterday the French seamen were on strike,so all the lorries that head towards the port off Dover,were stacked on the M20 motorway,till such time as the strike was over.
I know what you mean about sewing up knitted garments. But I used to get great delight,looking at the completed garment. I hope Matthew has not out grown them already,at the rate he is growing you will need to knit the next size up for him. lol
Hi Marie. Seeing you write the word BLUO,has reminded me off another chore that I used to get lumbered with as a child,and that was cleaning the brasses with BRASSO. Oh my word,I used to end up with black hands, and the brasses were never up to mums standard,so she would do them again. I never understood why she made me do them in the first place.
Under your circumstances,I can understand why you changed faith.
I am ashamed to say,that we are not great church goers. But it does not
change the way I feel about my faith in the lord.
The only times we seem to go these days,are I am ashamed to say,are for christenings,weddings and burials.
Keep your chin up my friend. Smile and the world smiles with you.
Liz,I hope you found both your friends in good health,bless them.
Some off our more elderly friends can put us to shame can't they. One off
my friends that I meet every day,is 84,and she walks down to meet us every day for a coffee. She is getting quite forgetful,and will tell us as soon as she arrives,which shops she has to go to,and then asks us again as she leaves where she has to go. She does enjoy a good laugh,
and even when some off the subjects we discuss,can be a bit near the knuckle,she sits there in hysterics. She feels that we do her good,but little does she know,that in fact,she does us good.
Huia,it seems to me that great minds think alike,as far as you and Liz go.

I am glad you got the phone sorted out. At least now you can roam around no problem now,and chat away to your hearts content.
Oh my word Jean,have you been peeping in my window,how did you know I am full off wind. Theres one thing for certain,you would not want to hear me sing. They normally stick me out in the middle off the river,as a fog warning. lol
I had to send Roly out on the Easter Egg run today. I dont dare to go to visit the family. Still got this flipping virus,and will be phoning the doctors
first thing Tuesday morning for a prescription,to get rid off all the muck on my chest.
Now where is our Sallie tonight,SALLIIIIIEEEE, where are you.
I noticed that Ann is back from her holiday,hopefully she will pop in later and tell us all about it.

I remember my mother using the blue bags, and we had a wringer I had to help with turning the handle, it was hard work but it used to work very well ...
the items were almost dry ...

Marie,I used to be in the church choir but as I got older I found I couldnt sustain the breathing and so had to give it up. but I find the modern choruses and hymns are easier to sing. so I can manage them...Mo would be okay singing she is full of wind. most of the time..lol...

I got a 3m long lead. The one which came with the phone was only 2.8m, and wouldnt reach. It cost me $20 for the new one :-(( but it is now set up and I have to charge it for 24 hours, although it looks to me as though the batteries are already charged. I will try it out tomorrow.

Hi all, Happy Easter to those I haven't already said it to lol
I don't know whether I am coming or going at the mo, I have been busy getting all the washing done, just his workstuff to do now, so will put the machine on when I go up to bed, and he can hang it out when he gets up a couple of hours later, outside if it isn't raining. The weather is so unpredicatable, sunny, bright and blowy and then you turn round and it's tiddling down with rain! Luckily he got a dry ride to and from work with rain in between yesterday, as he left the car for me, but I didn't feel up to driving so stayed home instead.
Will have to go out today as I need to pop two little cards and a small gift to two neighbours close to my house, both over 80 and one single lady so few visitos, the other has two daughters but she is in very poor health. The single lady can at least get out and about if she takes it slowly and I have been friends with them since I moved to that area in 1987 so like them to know I haven't forgotten them. I did call and see one the other day when I was there getting my mail from my house. She had just bought herself a new fridgefreezer, that's positive thinking at the age of 82!
I can also pick up my mail from the house and do some errands, see my son and give him an Easter gift, just a bar of chocolate or some creme eggs, and a bright little card to stand on his desk in the flat. He will be busy out and about with his mates - glad he has some time away from work till Tuesday as it gets him down so much, wish he could find a new job.

Huia, hope you can have a pleasant Easter time and have been able to get the lead you needed for the phone. I realised that you are 12 hrs ahead of us now we have changed the clocks to summertime.

We had a large Colmans Factory here in Norwich, it was a major employer but not sure if the Blue was made here at any time. I remember Mum using the blue bag and not just for laundry, she would put it on wasp/bee stings I think.

I like knitting baby things cos they grow so fast but I always make the back and sides of the cardigan/jacket in one and include the start of the button bands too. You can knit up to the armholes in one piece which saves a bit of sewing up. I also knit both sleeves at the same time with two balls of wool on one set of needles as it means you get the same length and don't have to go all way up one sleeve and then back up another!

I can't do lots of individual replies as I am really tired and can't remember everything so please excuse me and know you are all in my thougths, and I wish you a nice Easter weekend among family and friends where possible.

Hi Sylvia,I think you are right in Aussie it was just Rickett's and the Label said in big blue Letters BLUO.
I know how you feel I usually get the jumpers done quickly but the sewing up is a pain & it take me some time simply because I dont like doing it.
How is MBJ I bet he is putting on the weight.
It is Easter Saturday, I used to always spend Easter at Church being in the Choir and also the organist but when I left Terry I was in a bad state &I havent returned to the church, as I associate it with all the bad times.
I am not sure I will ever get over what he put us through and even after he died he has caused so much grief as he cut 2 of his daughters out of his will because they didn't want to associate with him.I am a catholic ,I now like to think of my self as a Christian and I do try to live up to that creed. ( mind you I dont always manage it)
I hope you have a nice holiday, you do have a long journey, I find trains relaxing and I take a crossword puzzel this makes the time go faster.Enjoy your trip, sorry I missed you earlier regards Marie.

The weather today is incredible ......... more like November or December. Heavy rain and gale force winds! In fact, the wind has blown the rain away ................ and birds are flying sideways!!!

The ferries to Vancouver Island have been halted because it is too dangerous ........ one of the earlier sailings (8:30am) had to turn back because the bow doors to the car deck were damaged by the wind. The wind eased off a little just before lunch, but it's back in full force again, just from a slightly different direction.


Sole for dinner tonight ....... and toasted Hot Cross Buns for breakfast on Sunday morning (that's our tradition!).


Will have to spend quite a lot of time over the next few days finishing sweaters for MJB ................. they're all at the stage I hate, ie sewing up, front bands, buttons, etc!!

So if I'm missing, that's the reason


We leave on April 8, spend 10 days with daughter Catch the train in Halifax on April 19, and arrive home on April 24th. Probably will not have any access while we're away. Son-in-law always seems very reluctant to have anyone use his (ie, their!) computer, never asks if you would like to use it. And we're not bothering to take our laptop ...... too much trouble taking it through airport security, and it will be no use on the train anyway!

Jean thanks for the PM, have sent you one back. Have you been making more cards today? I have some birthdays coming up in April and May, so I'm hoping to make them. I'll try and get Alun to send you some of the pictures of the cards I've made, I've asked him for a long while if he would send you and Ann some of the pictures of the Scrap pages I've done, but I'm still waiting.

Marie, well done to your daughter on being top student--she's doing really well. Please pass on my Congratulations. I'm afraid I'm not very good at singing, I sound like a 'cats chorus', it's a dreadful noise. Richard takes after Alun's father for music, he had lots of certificates that he passed over the years. Richard's degree is in music, the serious kind, when he was at school he started to learn to play the flute and then the piano--he'd really like to be able to play the cello, but at the moment he can't afford the lessons or buy a cello. Have a lovely Easter!

Mo, hope you and Roly are feeling better now. It's been a bit cold here today, with showers. Although it didn't stop Alun and I going to Derby, where I decided to have my hair washed, cut and blown dry, at long last I've managed to get my hair sorted out. So by the time I did that, then we went for a cuppa, had a look around the shops and called to see Jennie and Michael on our way home, I don't know where the day has gone.

Huia, did you manage to get the extention you needed for the phone? I hope you did and that it's all sorted now. Hope you find more alert when you visit him next. A Happy Easter!

Julia, I hope you are feeling better. When to you have to go to the hospital next? Jennie goes to Queens next week, she has an appointment with the IBD nurse. I hope that you both get on okay.

I hope that Debbie and her family have arrived safely in Whitby.

Not sure when Ann and Marilyn get home, hope they have a safe journey.

Don't worry yourself about getting our Jeans name wrong,you should hear what I call her a times. (int that reet me duck Jean)
I have never heard off a Kerosine refridgerator before,thats me learnt something today. I can remember my nan,and the family getting ice from the man that bought it round the houses,on a horse and cart.
I think the closest we came to a fridge, back then,was the larder that had the cold shelf in it.
What do you mean you don't do craft making. As far as I am concerned,making curtains and blinds and bedspreads,is a craft in itself.
These days the furthest my sewing goes,is to sew a button on a garment,
if it comes off.
I used to be good when the children were young. Doing both knitting and sewing,but now I just buy what I need,ready made. Laziness really.
Please give your daughter my congratulations,on winning the book vouchers. She has done herself and you proud.
I think that everyone must have gone out for the day,as it is very quiet here today.
I must go and make a nice cup off tea now,not long finished our dinner.
As it's good friday,we had fish. Didn't have hot cross buns though,they give us indigestion nowadays. Sure sign off our digestive systems changing with age.
Ann should be back from her holiday today. I hope she has had a good time.

Fancy me making a mistake & calling Jean( June ) I didnt know that I had.I have not received an email card from you Jun------ opps! Jean LOL you will have to try again Please.
Sallie I hope you have cheered up, I have very clear memories of washing Day with the Copper and the blueo bags, they were called, that was the brand name, it was hard work trying to wring the sheets & towels Mum used to wait till Saturday when Dad was home to do the Linen as he was over 6ft. and very strong, my sister & I used to help with the washing on the weekend but only the smaller things .
We also had a kerosine refridgerator and when it got over 100degrees F., it used to smoke then I would have to brush out the flue and restart it,we would then soak a large hessien bag and place it over the top of the Fridge. It helped.
Marilyn must be home by now I hope she had a swell time.

You are all so clever with your card making I am not in to crafts , my daughter does Quilting and I still Sew but usually only Curtains, bedspreads and even Blinds I dont like sewing fiddly things, I really love to be outside in the garden. I have been doing some practice on the Piano and a little voice practice.
My daughter received a letter from the university on wednesday to say she had won a prize for the top student in Horticlture for the Distant Education field. she was very pleased she got a $100.00voucher to spend on books, which will be a help.
It is pleasing to hear that Phil has been a little better.Huia I resigned from the Choir because I was disliking the cold at night and over here we do such a lot of practice in Winter, I dont really miss the choir I did miss the Quartet Singing and my friends.

Well, I can now move around the kitchen, dining room and lounge without struggling to get free of the webs. I tried to install a cordless phone that I bought ages ago but I need a longer thing to go to the phone jack, as I want to sit it on top of the fridge. Alternatively a longer power lead. The only other option would be to put a little shelf in the corner above the door so both leads would reach their respective places, but above the door would not be so easy to reach the phone when I want to go walk-about. I might go into town tomorrow to see if I can get an extension for the phonejack cord as that is my preferred option. It doesnt need to be very long, only another half metre at the most.

Jean, well that's two of you that's been busy today! Both you and Mo put me to shame, as I haven't done much at all. Although I have found and tried to download some stuff off the internet ready to make some cards.
Anyway, I didn't make a good job of downloading, so Alun will do them when he gets back from the club, later on.

Mo, I can vaguely remember my Nan and her sister doing their washing, with the old copper, tub and scrubbing board, I an also remember the little blue bags. My mother then had an electric washer with a wringer, the women in the family all thought it was great, which I suppose it was for that time. When Alun and I first got married we had a twin-tub, I thought it was wonderful. I don't know how I'd manage without an automatic washer now!

Huia, did you get those cobwebs moved? If you did, I bet you are getting around a lot quicker now. Ha! Ha! Hope you have a nice Easter and that you'll have some nice weather.

I didn't realise that Debbie and family were going away for Easter, I knew they were going to Whitby at some time in the year, but not as soon as this. I hope they'll have a good holiday.

I'm going to make myself a cuppa now, I might see you all later.
