I googled. Phil has hyperkalemia, Daff has hypokalemia.
Older people have a greater risk of hyperk. because the kidneys are less efficient at eliminating potassium as we age.
So now I know. 3 cheers for google.

This morning I went to an international day for the elderly. It wasnt as good as last weeks expo. I then had my lunch and went to see Phil. He was still eating his (I had mine a bit early). One of the carers showed me a small movie she had made of him yesterday afternoon, walking around the garden. She said she has to walk beside him in case he falls, and sometimes he runs! I think he is preparing for the Great Escape.
He had a blood test recently and has too much potassium. Must have been eating too many bananas. I must google to find out what the effect is of too much potassium. I see Daff has to have an infusion of potassium, so hers is obviously too low.
Tomorrow I must turn the house upside down to see where I have put my new cheque book. I dont write cheques very often, about 2 a month, and a new book is sent when I am down to the last 10, which is about 5 months ago. Now where would I have hidden it? I need a better filing system than putting things down and burying them with other stuff.
Huia.

Sallie is Christie a member of a union. No way should that man be allowed to get away with hitting anyone male or female. He doesn't sound 'normal'. Does she not get on with her immediate boss? that is the person who should be taking the matter further. And that is, as Mo says, assault not bullying. At the very least there should be something recorded in writing, maybe the best thing would be to put it in the accident book. She was hurt so it was an accident at work. That way it will be officially recorded. I wonder if anyone else in the office witnessed it and would be willing to say they did if necessary.
Yes I have made about 15 cards this week using the toppers I put together while in Tenerife.
Jean Lol!!! Not long before your holiday now then. You need to sort out that infection before you go.

Hi girls. Sorry I am late in posting, but I have been to bongo with my daughter and grandaughter. We didn't win worst luck, but it was free to play,so we enjoyed a night out together.
Sallie, what happened to Christie is an assault, and should not be pushed under the carpet, and covered up. I realise that Christie is worried about her job, but if the police were involved, he would have been charged with common assault. He has no right to be allowed to get away with it, it's bullying at it's highest dregree. Nasty Nasty man. I do hope that Christie is alright. Did she suffer any bruising to her face. If she has, I hope Richard has taken photographs of it, for future reference.
I am so sorry to hear about your friends brother, god willing the chemo will kill the blighter of. It's always the good people that seem to suffer, more so than the evil ones.
Well I must away to my bed girls. Good Night god bless. Love Mo xxx

Hi Girls,
Right I'll try again, almost finished one message and it just disappeared. I think it's this stupid computer!
Just looked at the messages on here, and realised that I haven't posted since last Friday. Sorry girls, I've been so busy making cards, I just don't know where the time has gone.
Also got some awful news last week, a good friend of mine rang to let me know that her brother has been diagnosed with leukemia, he started chemo last Saturday. He's in Derby Royal Hospital, and will be in for four weeks to start with. Him and his wife have been married fortyone years and have never had any children.
The news really knocked me, he's such a nice chap, always lived a decent life and both him and his wife have always been there for my friend and her family, when they've needed help, in one way or another.
I got a phone call from Christie last Friday, she was really upset, a young man working in the same office, had hit at the side of her face. He had said to no one in particular, to have a look at somthing on his computer screen, but when Christie went to look at it, he hit her at the side of her face. Although she had a meeting with HR yesterday, she seems to think that nothing will be done about it. The problem is, that in the office where she works, there is quite a bit of bullying going on, from some of the ones in charge.
I hope that she'll be able to get another job somewhere else. The trouble is, I don't think that these big Companies do anything about bullying, they are so big that they don't care about any of their staff that are bullied by other members of staff. The Companies are only interested in making a good profit. Richard had the same problem last year with the big music company he worked for.
Sylvia, how is your kitchen coming along? It will be lovely when it's finished and worth putting up with all he mess and inconvenience while it's being done.
I hope you'll enjoy your weekend away and that you'll get some good weather.
Tess, your aunt sounds lovely, I would have loved to have been in the room when she told the doctor about him being overweight. It certainly made me chuckle.
Joyce, thanks for your phone call yesterday, it was nice hearing from you.
I hope Jan is feeling better today.
Have you heard anymore about your friend's daughter-in-law? I really hope that she's had her operation today. It's digusting how many times the hospital have sent her home. Surely there's someone that they can complain to about it. The hospital might think that it's only a minor operation and can wait, but she's not able to live her life as she should be living it.
Liz, it was nice to see that you had posted on here. It's such a same that OH's two sons haven't been in touch with him. He must feel very hurt about it, seeing that he's helped them both when they've needed it.
Are you still going to the Cousellor? I hope that you are feeling better than you've been, and are now able to do things that you haven't been able to for a long time.
Ann, glad to see you home, although it looks as though you'll be off on your travels again soon. I don't blame you and T, enjoy going while you can. Have you managed to make any cards since you're home?
Jean, thanks for your pm. It looks as though we've been busy with making cards. I now count it as an adiction, even while we were doing our weekly shop yesterday, my mind kept wandering to card making, and I couldn't get home quick enough to start them again. That's got to be an adiction!lolol!!!
Huia, it must have been nice to see Phil awake and eating his dinner when you last visited him.
Did you take the dahlia tubers into the Hospice Shop, as you said you were going to? If you did, I bet they sold them very quickly.
Mo, how is the weather there? Today has been a lovely day, although we did have some fog earlier this morning, but it soon cleared.
Did you enjoy your roast dinner yesterday? I love a roast, it's one of my favourite meals. We had cheese and potato pie today. I'd promised to make it for Michael, as it's one of his favourites, although we all enjoyed it.
Jennie had an appointment with the Consultant yesterday, she's very pleased with her, the only thing is, that Jennie's low on vitamin D, so she has to get a Vitamin D supplement from the Health Shop.
Hope Marie is having a good holiday, not sure when she gets home.
We still haven't heard from Debbie, hope all is well with her.
I'll say bye for now, speak to you all soon.
Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Hi girls. I believe Jean said they were on holiday at the end of the month. But if I am wrong I feel sure our Jean will let us know..
Joyce, I am sorry to hear that Jan is not well. Do you know what is wrong with him love. I do hope it's nothing serious. As you say Jean is probably up to her armpits in bits and bobs, making her xmas cards. I have put my order in. LOL
Ann, I am sure you can't have put that much weight on. After all, it was quite hot where you were, and must have sweated a lot of. But Salmon is delicious anyway, and I could eat it at any time.
Love Mo xxx
Edit. Ooooh Jean you crafty monkey you crept in when I was not looking. Mwah

Tess Lol at your aunt. I would think at her great age she can choose whar to do as she likes!!!
Sylvia, We are all looking forward to your new kitchen. we have got salmon salad tonight, cooked it this morning. this is austerity week to take off the pounds we put on while away. Actually they come off quite quickly as the extra is mostly down to alcohol consumption which drops dramatically as soon as we get home.

Hello everyone. Tess, your aunt is doing really well for someone her age. And it's nice to hear she can still stand up for herself. A lot of people, who are even younger than her, seem to become shrinking violets in front of doctors. It must be the what is classed as white coat syndrome, fear of doctors, and what they may tell you. Have you been out for anymore Caribbean (sp)meals. I am envious,as we have nothing like those restuarants around here.Only Chinese, Indians and the like.
Ann you and T are proper gad abouts arn't you. But enjoy every minute of your breaks away. I can't see us getting away now till next year. We don't go abroad, and it's turning to cold here in this counrty. I am a fair weather gal.
Sylvia, the shoes you are to wear, even if you have to pop to the loo during the night, are they lace ups, or just slip on ones. If they are lace ups, it will prove rather awkward doing them up half asleep. And knowing your bad luck, if you left them undone, you would have another fall. Surely using the insoles during the day, will be more beneficial in the long run, but as for bedtime, well, Just how long do they think you are going to be stood up passing water.lol The kitchen all seems to be coming to fruition now doesn't it. Like Jean and I experienced,it seems like it's never going to happen, and then it's like a whirlwind of activity. But it will look lovely I am sure. I bet your daughter will want to come and visit as soon as possible,to see the results.
Huia, little cat naps during the day will not harm you. Especially if you are unable to get a full nights sleep. I very often doze of during the afternoon. I could be reading my book, and I just nod off, and wake up about ten minutes later. I swear black is blue to Roly that I have not been asleep. But he tells me that if I had not been asleep, then we must have had a horse in the house,as I keep on snorting like a horse does.
Well ladies, we had pouring rain this morning, but now we have brilliant sunshine. The washing is out on the line for a change, thank goodness. I get fed up of seeing it on the clothes horse. I am cooking a nice piece of pork fillet in the oven for dinner tonight. And will do a lovely roast for a change. Yummy Bye for now my friends. Love to you all. Mo xxx
(((((((((HUGS FOR JEAN)))))))))) as we have not heard from her in a few days. (((((((((HUGS FOR SALLIE)))))))))) as she has been absent as well.

lol! Tess
I love your aunt, without ever meeting her!!!
Had physio today ... OH took me down there in the car, and then I took the buses to meet him for coffee. Felt great after treatment, but feeling tired and a bit achy now.
It was a lovely Fall day ............. cool overnight (down to 8C), a little foggy in the morning, then sun. It got to about 15C, but was just glorious. Wednesday is expected to be the same.
Orders from physio ....... do not wear bedroom slippers (I don't anyway!!), but have proper shoes dedicated for wear only in the house, with supporting insoles in them, and wear the shoes even when going to the loo in the middle of the night. That is to prevent the knee twinge. I already have the house shoes with insoles ..... but I usually run around barefoot until I get dressed!
Within 15 minutes of getting home after coffee, we had made more advances on the kitchen front
..... the dishwasher will be delivered tomorrow, but will have to sit in the living room for a time! We have now asked the company to take away the portable one .... it turns out that the Sally Ann closest to us no longer takes or sells dishwashers; the Sally Ann no longer has a pick-up service; and, to be honest, we don't feel like driving miles and miles to find one that does take dishwashers! We don't have the same sort of freeby organizations that you seem to have.
...... at the same time, we realised that we really should have a separate "dedicated" electricity supply for the dishwasher ...... not just plug it into any old socket. OH called the electrician who re-did the electric socket for the stove last year, he couldn't do it but passed us onto someone who could. That guy was round at our house within 10 minutes!! He just happened to be driving down the main street near us. He'll do the job, we have to call him when the flooring is laid and the cabinets installed, and he'll come and do the electricity supply.
My little mind says "wouldn't it be better to do it now while there is nothing there" but that's what he says!
.... phone message to say the vinyl flooring is in the store. But we got the message off the tape at 4:02 pm, and the call service at the store is open from 7am to 4pm! So we have to call tomorrow morning to arrange a time for them to come.
And finally,
..... told the neighbours that we are going away on Saturday until Monday, so please could they keep an eye on the house.
Phew!
Take care everyone

back from the visit with my aunt. She is a lady who speaks her mind. Recently, she had to see a Doctor in a hospital. He (silly man), tried telling her what she should and should not be doing. Aunties response was to tell him "Well, you won't live to be a hundred anyway" And when he asked Why? she said "Because you are overweight!" So that put him in his place - DON'T MESS WITH MY AUNT!!!

Ouch Huia!! Hope that has cured it. Sylvia, sorry you are feeling sore, hope you feel better soon. Theresa, how lovely to be active and in your own home at 100, enjoy your day. Mo, no we have a long weekend in London the end of October, then a week in Cyprus the beginning of November, then probably a long weekend in Torquay early December. Joyce, you are so right, the years fly by and nothing emphasises that more than our children being as old as we still feel.
Off to the dentist now.

Just a quick Hi to everyone. I will be going out in a little while, meeting my sister, before going to see my Aunt (by marriage) who is one hundred years old.
She lives in her own home, with one of her sons. She has been deaf since she was ababy, so conversations tend to be rather loud, She is a right chatterbox and just about everything is in working order.
So looking forward to the visit.

Hi all
your poor foot Huia! I have one toe that is susceptible to igrowing ...... so I have to stuff a tiny bit of cottonwool down under the nail every day. That keeps it up enough so that it doesn't ingrow.
sorry I haven't been on ...... I've been very tired, and sore today (Monday), and not very good company!
Now about to go to bed ....... and it's physio tomorrow. Hope he can help ease soem of the pain.
Or I might just have to wait until the weather settles down!

I went to town this morning, visited the podiatrist to get my toenails cut. One of them was severely ingrown so he dug it out and bandaged it. Wearing sandals, the white bandage stands out like a sore toe, as the saying goes. Not that it is sore unless somebody presses on it.
I then had lunch and went to see Phil. He was still eating his. He is such a slooooow eater. At least he was awake and looking at me sometimes. I was going to stay in town and buy my dinner before going to our gen. group meeting tonight but I was rather tired so came home and had a couple of glasses of water, then a 30 min. nap. Have just had a light meal and will go back to town soon for the meeting. I am not too keen on night meetings these days (sounds a bit Irish!) so wont be making a habit of it.
