T was never actually an electrician as he went on to be Radar Fleet air arm. But the electrical training HND whatever stuck and he still does electrical jobs round the house. And he is very respectful of electricity as well.

I forgot to ask her if she has insurance Ann, I must give her a ring tonight to find out.
Our OH's being in the forces, certainly came in handy didn't it.
When Roly came out of the R.A.F he went on to be a maintenance/electrician for a major company, but as you say, they are not qualified to do house rewires.
But at his age now, I am glad he is out of it all. It's a rat race now.

glad you are OK Mo. Goodness your friend was lucky. It is going to be expensive for her, unless her insurance covers the roof. May cover the washing machine if thatw as dmaged. yes I am lucky that OH can do most electrice (although the law says he is not 'qualified' to touch bathroom, kitchen or garden electrics these days. He only served a three year apprenticeship in the RN as a Radio Electrical artificer but doesn't hold the relevant piece of paper.

Yes Linda we do worry when people are missing. Well i do if they are regularly on here. Not so bad if they are occasional visitors.

Mo in Kent Report 7 Jan 2011 17:16

Hellooooooooo, yes I am still here girls.
We had an emergency phone call from a friend. With all the snow, and heavy rain of the last couple of days, her utility room roof had sprung a bad leak, and water was running into her electric socket for her washing machine.
Roly cut the power to the socket,to check it out, and when he took the front box of, it was half filled with water, and had burnt through the wiring.
Oh my lord she was so lucky, they still have the old fuse wire type of fuse box, that was outlawed ages ago. They need a complete house rewire, and a new consumer unit. Plus she has got to have a new roof put onto the garage and utility room.
I am just glad to be married to a sparky, who can do all our own electrics.
My friend will have to employ an electircian, to do the whole electrics in her house, as Roly cannot do it for her,as he is no longer certified to do so.

Well now girls, I hope we are all feeling better today.
No news yet from Marie, either I'm afraid. I AM getting worried now,as Marie normally would check her E.Mails on a regular basis.

No news from Jean, Caz or Joyce either.

Sylvia, I hope you are getting back to normal now.
Have you got the whip out, and the paint brushes for your OH to start the painting in your kitchen yet. lol

Sallie, hows you today lovey. Have you and Julia arranged to meet again for a coffee.
How is your brother keeping now.? I hope he is a lot better than he was.

Right I must go and finish the dinner. Pork, roast potato's, sprouts, carrots,
peas and apple sauce oh! and gravy.
See you after dinner. Love Mo xxx

Hi Ann I have seen Mo on another thread today so she is around.
I love the way we worry if somebody is missing. It's like having a really close group of friends, that care when we don't appear.

Hope everyone is OK

Ann, I have sorted out the relevant and possibly relevant info for my gt gt grandfather. Will I put it on this thread, or in a PM, or if you prefer it in an email I will need to know yours. Or I could put it on a TTF.

Thanks.

Agh, I see Sallie has beat me too it. Lovely lady.
Yes, we had a lovely couple of hours. I met Sallie's lovely daughter Jenni, and her other half Michael, who stayed and had their lunch. It seems that, where they live, is only a couple of fields over my back garden, but we are in separate towns.LOL
We had a lenghty nitter natter, and it was nice to have human company, not just cyber people.
We have said, we will do it again. The garden centre is half way between the two towns we live in.

Hi Ladies,

Well Julia and I met as planned, she's a very nice lady, and of course we had a nice long chat. So we both decided that we will meet again sometime.

Just thought I'd let you know before I start to make our dinner. I'll be back on later.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Mo in Kent Report 6 Jan 2011 13:45

Good afternoon girls.

I hope the meeting between Sallie and Julia goes well this afternoon.
And I am hoping it's not raining as hard there,as it is here. But I know that the weather will not spoil their meeting each other.

I sent an E.Mail to Marie yesterday to see if she is o.k, and so far there is no news from her. So heres hoping that no news is good news.

I phoned my cousin in OZ, and she said that the floods are about 50k away from them.
They have had very heavy rain where they live, that has flooded the roads into the town, but the houses are safe enough in their region of Queensland.

I hope that everyone is well, and I will pop back later to speak to you all.
Love and best wishes Mo xxx

Huia, Wotton Under Edge is about 8 miles from me, a small village on the edge of the Cotswolds. If you give me his details I'll see if I can find him for you in 1841.

Have you contacted the relevant Records Office for advice? I will have to check if it comes under Bristol or Gloucester, that part of the cotswolds is divided as to which office they come under.

Huia Report 6 Jan 2011 00:02

I very much doubt it, Ann, he was a weaver living in Wotton-under Edge. He died of pthisisi pulmonalis in 1847, so I suspect he might have been in hospital.

Family history says he was a good violinist and played for the King, but that would have been before Victoria became Queen.

I think I have possibly found his brother also living in WuE in 1841 and 1851. He was apparently b in Bradford on Avon. That is something that I will try to follow up in Parish records sometime.

could he have been away in the army or Navy Huia in the 1841?

Huia Report 5 Jan 2011 19:43

Hi there. My best wishes to Caz and Joyce and anybody else who is not well.

Ann, I think I might have asked for help with my gt gt grandfather ages ago, but no luck. I will have to put my thinking cap on some time and work out a new line of attack on him. I know his d.o.b. from an old birthday book, and his fathers name from his m cert, if it is to be believed. But his p.o.b. eludes me, and I might have to trawl through parish records for hundreds of miles around his last known place of abode. I cant even find him on the 1841 census, although his wife is there with her 'occupation' being wife of Thomas Taylor. She was 6 months pregnant with their only child, my gt grandmother, at the time.

Better finish my breakfast, I need to do a bit of shopping this morning.
