Julie, Fanny Adams was a young girl who lived in Alton, hants. She was murdered and dismembered aged 8 years and 4 months in 1867. (Fanny was her proper name!) maggie |

But although it should be short for Frances, quite often it doesn't always have any logic at all and just comes from a family pet name. If the middle name was Ann, then it could have sort of evolved into Fanny. My daughter calls her sister Stephanie 'fanny' sometimes. |

One of my Great-Grandmothers was Frances, often referred to as Fanny (which is backed up by the 1871 census entry for her). Hope this helps, Glenys x |

Could this be the name, or could it be short for something else? Is it at all possible it could be short for Sarah Ann? |
