Can anyone please tell me how to correctly search for a marriage on 1837.com??? I know these name of one person Thomas Williams b 1826, but cannot find his wife Catherine's maiden name. Looking at 1837, it only shows the name of the person I already know rather than showing who he married!! Am I doing something wrong??? Juliana x |

Sorry Juliana but you have to buy the marriage cert to find that out, the marriage is too early. You might be better checking census for your fellow and see the first name of his wife, for surname it will have to be a birth cert for one of the children or marriage cert. Pat x |

Juliana If you have found the correct male name, then thats all you need to send for the cert. You dont have to state both when you order. If you do know both, then you make a note of the ref no's, year, quarter etc for one of them, then look at the other name. If the numbers are the same, then that couple married. Margaret |

Why might the above not be right? 19 wasn't an unusual age to wed. My 2XGGrandfather was 18 when he married |

I'm a little confused here! There's a thread on the other board asking for a birth look up for Catherine, saying she was born circa 1835, yet Thomas was born 1826. I know large age gaps are not uncommon but if people are searching for a marriage for you, it would have helped if you'd stated an approx birth year for Catherine as well and then at least people know the approximate time frame they need to be searching in. The marriage that Glen found sounds perfectly plausible but NOT if would only make Catherine 10 years old at the time. Lou |

In the other thread the first child was born 1857 and the marriage I found was for 1856. Crista |

Ive been working on 1835 as the year for her birth, from the age on the census, however, it may be that this is incorrect. I think the marriage that Crista found is probably more likely as their first child was born until c1857. Thank u for all your suggestions. This has become very addictive!!!! Juliana x |
