Has anyone come across this lady's christian name from around 1800? Is it a shortened name or a nickname? I would be grateful for any ideas. Heather |

No. If pronounced with a soft c I suppose it could be a mistake for Dulcey/Dulcie? Or an abbreviation for Theodosia? nell |

Helen and Jess......thanks for the suggestions. It has been transcribed as Dolly and Dorey on two of the censuses. She lived in Dudley, I'm not sure if that's relevant though. Heather |

You'll probably find 'Dolly from Dudley' is probably Anastasia Theodora when you get to the bottom of it. need someone that speaks with a black country accent - I'm trying and it keeps coming out scots! Jess x |

Brenda Thanks for the idea, I just put Docey/ birth/ Worcs in the IGI and there was a Docey Round born about the right time. I've seen the name Round connected to Downs so it's a possibility......I'll keep digging. Thank you. Heather |
