Hi Anne - Marie, I am still very new to this, so some advice would be great if you would please. i have my ggrandad Edward Shinn birth cert which says his parents are James Shinn and i believe Betsy Dowes ( dowes is not too clear ) Edward was born in Deeping St Nicholas Lincolnshire 25/06/1902. Where would i find out when and where his parents were married? which would be the best site to look on? Many Thanks in advance Kirsty x

Hi Kirsty, are you sure its Betsy Dowes, I found James Shinn with a Betsy Twigg, september quarter, 1894, Boston, Lincolnshire, You could try Freebmd, think thats best free site for marriages. Hope this helps, I'm new to helping others Lol, AL

Hi Janet, I found a birth 1849 Kings Norton, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire ( think it must be on a border), however I looked for him in censuses with this info and he's not there, maybe he was hiding. Couldn't find a marriage between John Sutton and Ann Hand though sorry. AL

Twigg may have been her previous married name. Perhaps if you have a look on FreeBMD for a Besty Dowes marrying a Mr Twigg around 1886/7 (just before her first child was born) it would help confirm if this is right.

Hi Could you find any information on Francis and Ann Welch for me please. I know they were living in Bethnal Green at the time of the 1861 census, with three of their daughters, but this was seven years before their daughter Mary Ann b1868 (my Gt-Grandmother) was born, after this date I can't find any information on them. I think they were both born in Bethnal Green in about 1827, Francis was a cabinet maker/looking glass frame maker. If you could help this would be great. Thanks Carole

Hi Ann-Marie Manys thanks for your offer of help. I am really stuck on the date of birth for Annie (Not Ann) Jones. She was married to William Christie 10/7/1881. Her father was Thomas Jones decd. She was married at Trinity Church, West Hampstead. William died 1898. The 1891 census states that Annie was aged 38 and born in Kencott, Oxon. That ties in with the 1901 census. I have tried the family records office over several months and also tried 1837online but to no avail. Such a common name. Perhaps a fresh pair of eyes would be able to find her, I would be very grateful if you could help in any way. Regards Jean
