Ross>> Just been reading some posts on the Leitrim Roscommon site about Connaughtons from Ardcarne parish, not sure if the posts were from you. If they are let me know as i have photographs of Ardcarne and Cootehall churches. I've also got a photo of the board at the entrance to the cemetary that lists all the graves and a great book on the history of Ardcarne. Paula |

Hi Kelly,my Connaughtons are from Boyle in Roscommon, came to England between 1846-49..Have found thier marriage in Ireland and thier first born too..Also got them on all English census from 1851-1901,so its not impossible..Plus you have a big advantage in that you know where they came from(Roscommon).Try the Leitrim-Roscommon website, very informative..Just like to add that without the people on this site(GR) i wouldnt have got anywhere near the info i have got..Good luck Kelly. Regards Ross. |

Found it: I hope that some of these sites will be of help to you. Civil registration did not start until 1864 in the main. Here are some: cyndlist and GENUKI - go into Ireland, then spend hours/days/weeks roaming around! rootsweb mailing lists for counties and surnames for Ireland rootsweb irelandoldnews scripts.ireland irishgenealogy.ie irishroots.net ni_towns.tripod usrs.on.net/~proformat/irlnamesL ireland.anglican.org/library/libroots nli.ie/family_hr.htm#com from-ireland.net/contents ulsterancestry proni.gov.uk/ulstercovenantsearch http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy/researchers.htm I haven't used them all recently, so hope they still exist! I do have some more sites but for specific counties. By the way, if you google search for Ulster Covenant, you will find its site, which I find fascinating - in it: 'The archive of the Ulster Unionist Council, held by the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), contains just under half a million original signatures and addresses of the men who, on 28 September 1912, signed the Ulster Covenant, and of the women who signed the parallel Declaration. In total, the Covenant was signed by 237,368 men, and the Declaration by 234,046 women.'. It brings history alive for me to see their signatures. Joy |

Do you know which county they are from? I was lucky that on my gt gran's birth cert I got a maiden name of her mother. Trouble was it just said Ireland. Then someone with BVRI2 found the parents marriage, which gave me the county. Then miraculously, Genfindit.com found my gt grandfather's birth. So at least I know where they are from.........not that I can find much more !! Good luck |
