i sent away for a birth certificate on the 14th april, and paid by card not recieved the cetificate, but just got a e mail to say i have been refunded £4, no explanation, does anyone know why? is it because they cant find the certificate or something or will i still get it? Julie

GRO usually refund some of your fee if they cant find the certificate, so it is unlikely that you will receive it. Can you post the details so we can check that you had the reference right. Also, it may be worth trying the local register office for it.

why don't you phone or e mail GRO and ask them. Did you supple a reference checking point? If you did and something diesn't match then they wont send the certificate but they usually explain. are you sure that you copied the details correctly? i had a certificate not sent because i inadvertently put the wrong quarter. But i can't understand why you don't have a leter of explanation. Ann glos
