Hi, I am looking for my husband's g.g. grand father William Lipscombe. I have found his grandmother Amy Florence Lutman (born 1877 Sunninghill, Berks). I found their marriage on LDS in 1906 but it just lists him as 'Lipscombe' marriage 1906 no 1st name & a DOB of abt 1876. Their daughter Ivy Rosemary Lipscombe was born 1910 in Cuckfield & this is definately where they ended up as my mother-in-law was born there. However, I can't find either Amy's or William's deaths or their marriage. I have no idea where William is from & all I have is a family story of them meeting at Leeds Castle in Kent (this could be right as a census entry has Amy in Chatham, Kent). I would really like to get further on this one, however I can't afford to get the GRO to do the search for me. Does anyone have any clues as to how I can find anything about him? (I spent a good hour the other night trawling ancestry for him but as I have no idea where he was born it is a bit tricky!) Any help gladly taken!! Nico |

As all you have to go on that is 'concrete' is a marriage, the cert will tell you both fathers names , which hopefully will enable us to find him in a census somewhere Jess |

Nico At least he isn't called Smith! Is this a correct summary of the facts? William Lipscombe married Amy Florence Lutman in 1906. Their daughter Ivy was born 1910 in Cuckfield. I am not sure what you mean when you say you found a reference to the marriage on LDS, as I couldn't find it and most of their records stop before 20th century. It isn't on Ancestry yet, but you could find it in the GRO records by searching on www 1837online com. Have you thought about checking the William Lipscombes on the 1901 census index? There are 12 born within 5 years of 1876: Name Age Where Born Administrative County Civil Parish Occupation William Lipscombe 19 East Ham Essex Essex East Ham Dock L William Lipscombe 19 Heath Wakefield Yorks Yorkshire West Riding Warmfield Cum Heath William Lipscombe 20 Devon Exeter Exeter Exeter Chemists Labourer William Lipscombe 20 Lon Hackney London Clerkenwell Hotel Cellarman William Lipscombe 21 Hants Basingstoke Southampton Basingstoke General Labourer William Lipscombe 21 Sussex Brighton Brighton Brighton Plumber William Lipscombe 22 Warwicks B Ham ... Dear All, I don't want to incur the wrath of those too ungrateful or not specific enough, so shall attempt to answer all questions. Yes that is the Amy that I found ie. parents that are John & Sophia Turner. There definately is an Amy there for the marriages on LDS but as my husband is watching the footie & I have drunk 3/4 of bottle of wine will have trouble finding it, hang on here it is: 04 NOV 1877 Sunninghill, Berkshire, England Christening: Spouse: Lipscombe Family Marriage: About 1906 , , England definately in IGI. I promise that I am one of those looked everywhere/nowhere types. I have searched LDS, ancestry, 1837 (although have obviously been proved a fool as there is a William George for 1877 in Cuckfield!) etc etc. Many many thanks for all looking/ reading. I do appreciate all the help. Nico (P.S Again, bear in mind the wine- had slightly trippy experience reading the post re: cats & saucers etc!) |

Now I am even more confused. If they were on the IGI it should give a place and date. And why are Amy Lutman's parents called Turner?! nell |

Nicolette | Report | 25 May 2005 21:33 |
Dear Nell, No, the christening is listed as Sunninghill, Berks but marriage has no location & is vague to say the least!. Sorry to confuse, mother was Sophia Turner(1842) father John Lutman (1832) Nico |

The info you found on www.familysearch.org was NOT from the IGI (which is taken from parish baptism/marriage registers) but from the ancestral file, so it is less reliable, but might be right. nell |
