Are you sure it was the £10 offer, as that was the early 1960's I believe. I do not think you be able to access passenger lists anyway, how about looking for him via their White Pages website. Just Google ''Australia White pages'' using the inverted commas, it's the first site that comes up. Hopefully his name is not too common and you have some idea of the area he could have settled in. Put a message on the ''Trying to Find'' board here too Good Luck

I've just seen your message on the Trying to find board, I've checked the White Pages for Australia, there are no G I Whitworth's but there are several G Whitworths. It's got to be worth sending a basic letter to each one of them, don't you think? Include your email address too, I did this when I was looking for relatives in New Zealand. I had one reply by email. Hi Sharon Have read a couple of your previous posts about Graham (Graeme)Whitworth. If you type his name into the quick search above, he is listed in a tree that has been submitted by 'Christina' You can contact her by clicking on her name. (think you said before that he possibly has a sister by this name). Jackie ps Hope the twins are ok

The National Archives of Australia have masses of info online now as part of their database, Recordsearch. This includes records of English people who went there on under the Assisted Passage Migration Scheme. Entries list full names, dates of birth, how they travelled and from where. Must be worth a try, though I don't think all the records have been added to the database yet, so if you don't find him it might be worth contacting them. Best wishes, Carole

I emigrated to Australia on the ten pound assisted passage scheme in March 1972... I believe that particular scheme finished quite soon after. When you do a search in White Pages do a country/regional search too? not everybody lives in the cities. As your father in law arrived in 1970ish as a British citizen he was eligable to vote straight away. (these days you have to be an Australian Citizen) Unfortunately, the laws changed in 2004 and the electoral rolls are not for sale now, the only way of viewing an Australian Electoral Roll is to personally go to a State Head Office. Just a thought someone on GR may have the older rolls, you may like to post a message asking... you never know. All sorts of people have them for all sorts of reasons... I once met a girl on holiday who worked for a debt collecting angency... her company had them all. In the meantime I will make inquires this end in Melbourne. Hope this helps. Cheers Gerry

My family and I arrived in Australia in January 1974 and we were told by the man who interviewed us at Australia House that we were among the last families leaving under the $10 scheme. Grace

Just for the record, my ex husband & I travelled to Australia under the assisted passage scheme in 1976. Inflation must have put the cost up as we paid £21!! Carol

Hi all Sharon has sent me a personal reply. She has tried contacting 'Christina' as mentioned above. Christina has not replied to her e-mails. Don't know where to advise her next. Will keep looking though. Jackie x

From above site.. Unfortunately, there are no comprehensive name indexes for passenger records. To effectively search for family members, it is necessary to know the year, month and the port or State where they landed. Passengers were listed under each ship, so knowing the ship’s name is also useful when searching these records. If you are unable to identify the date of arrival within two months, your search could be very time-consuming. _________________________________________________ I still think it's worth writing to any G Whitworth in Australia. There were about 8 or so, are you going to do that Sharon?
