As there doesn't seem to have been a 'who/where' thread for Oxfordshire for over 18 months - and it's one of my main counties of research! - thought I would start one. Please add surnames/places/dates below (mine will be added shortly!) ...

Charles Newport - born Besselsleigh Oxford 1821 and his mother Anna who must have been unmarried when she had him. However by 1841 it seems she has either died or married as I cannot find her on the census. Please contact me direct if you know of them Thanks Alice

My Oxfordshire families are the Banbury (and a bit south) area up to the mid/late 19th century, when some of the family wandered off to Wymondham (Leics), Stamford (Lincs) and Leamington (Warks) ... WARR / WAR/ WOR in South Newington (there seems to be a lot of extant research on these and people have helped me already, thanks) GARDNER & STRATFORD from Wigginton (The Stratford bit isn't really local - he was born in Tingewick, Bucks, to a mother who didn't hang around to see him grow up) TISDALE, LAMB, STOWE, COOK & EDEN were the WARR's brides, of whom I know very little. Christine (PS - can we do surnames in capitals so they stand out, please?)

Hello I thought I'd share an update on this topic. One of my family really believed I wanted the Oxfordshire FHS CD of Parish Register transcripts covering South Newington, Wigginton, and a few other parishes nearby, and gave it to me for Christmas!! Yippee! I was browsing through Wigginton entries, looking for my GARDNERS, and hoping there might be one or two entries from my little STRATFORD family, when I realised I'd found a whole lot of STRATFORDs - including an Ann, who would have been of child-bearing age around the time my stranded John was born in Tingewick to an Ann STRATFORD of 'present residence unknown'. I was aware, already, that any parish with a potential burden of a person in need of support would pass that burden on as soon as it legitimately might do so. I have been reminded that this servant Ann, in Tingewick, would probably have needed a reference, which would have said where she came from. I am currently working on the premise that there has been an unscheduled ''brick-wall'' demolition (or at least part-removal), although being careful to make sure I note exactly which additional family members hang on my surmise that Ann STRATFORD (John's mother) is the same person as Ann STRATFORD (born in Wigginton). If you put ''Oxford'' into the Thread-search, you'll see that someone else has bought the Witney area CD. If you have any number of family in the relevant area for one of these CDs, they are really excellent value. I found huge amounts of info on my WARR family in South Newington, as well as the STRATFORD stuff for Wigginton. Christine
