Hooray!!! I am so pleased it's working out! Maybe the ''wrong'' certs you have, may turn out to be more distant rellies in the end, so won't be a complete waste?? Sarah |

Yes Sarah, thank you so much - I have decided you have definitely found the right family too!!! So I have scrapped a load of certs I have which are NOT the right family and been concentrating on all those children of Samuel Peek which you found. Thru GR I have now found a 3rd cousin and 4 of her children of the second son (I am decended from the 4th son). So whee hee!! I am so pleased I decided to ask for 'expert' help. Can't thank you enough. 'H J Peek', son, registered his father Samuel's death on 13.4.1900 age 78 in Lee (I have that cert), so he must be the youngest son, Henry. You've really got me started. I've found the marriages of several of them already. I've got 2 other families I'm stuck with so you may not have heard the last of me but my little brain can only manage to concentrate on one at a time. I'm back off to the Peeks, Peaks, Peakes, etc. Christine |

So you are really a Peeky Olde Crone, then??!! Christine, I have spent some time going round this family again, checking for other possibilities for George in the earlier censuu returns, and also checking the 1861 family i suggested to see what happened when they came forward in time (just in case their George wasn't the one who became a fishmonger!!) My conclusion is that the 1861 Peak family are indeed yours!!! I also noticed that Samuel Peak's death reg (between 1891 and 1901 from memory) was spelled Peek - the same as George the fishmonger was spelling his. Maybe George registered his father's death?? Well Old Crone, you might have just given me clues re. how my Daniel PEAK(E), or whatever his name could be, might be found. I can't find him in 1881. |

As a Peek by marriage, I can confidently tell you that you have only touched the tip of the iceberg when it comes to spelling the name Peek - the following list is taken from letters addressed to me over the years. Peek Peeke Peak Peake Pique Peck Perk Pack Pick Puck Back Beck Bick Bock Buck and out of the realms of fantasy surely - Geck Geek Gorkin (eh???) and finally PEE! Even my chequebook bears the name Peeke - I tried 3 times to get them to correct it, but sadly it was too difficult for them and we both gave up the attempt. Old Crone |

Sarah and Gwyneth You have given me lots to think about - tku so much. Very kind of you. If only they had been more accurate with their spelling and dates in days gone by it would be easier to be sure, but I think you might have found something! Going forward, I have managed to find 2nd cousins I did not know I had and will be meeting up with one of them next month in Essex. Christine |

Here's the 1871 with the wrong surname altogether lol You are going to have lots of work if you intend coming forward as well as going back - what a big family!! George Beck abt 1854 Greenwich, Kent, England Son Greenwich London Henry Beck abt 1868 Greenwich, Kent, England Son Greenwich London L James Beck abt 1860 Greenwich, Kent, England Son Greenwich London Lydia Beck abt 1823 Seal, Kent, England Wife Greenwich London Lydia Beck abt 1862 Greenwich, Kent, England Daughter Greenwich London Marry Beck abt 1858 Greenwich, Kent, England Daughter Greenwich London Ned Beck abt 1864 Greenwich, Kent, England Son-in-law Greenwich London Samuel Beck abt 1822 Otford, Kent, England Head Greenwich London Thomas Beck abt 1856 Greenwich, Kent, England Son Greenwich London Titus Beck abt 1850 Seal, Kent, England Son Greenwich London William Beck abt 1852 Greenwich, Kent, England Son Greenwich London They are at 5 Inn Terrace, Greenwich and Samuel is still a gardener. George is an errand boy. Ned ''Beck'' is indexed as son-in-law, but on the census page it says, ''son'' and then a small extra that looks more like ''Query dated'', which doesn't make any sense, but certainly doesn't say ''In-law''! Looks like a brother William is also listed as baptised, same parents' names but he is PEEK, ...so that's 3 different surname spellings so far! |

....and maybe the 1861 is wrong for his age as there is this bap on the IGI (making him 7 at the date of the 1861 census, not 5): GEORGE PEAKE Male Event(s): Birth: 01 FEB 1854 Christening: 21 MAY 1854 Saint Margaret, Lee, Kent, England Parents: Father: SAMUEL PEAKE Mother: LYDIA Lee is virtually in Greenwich!! There are so many experts here, I am seeking help!! George Peek, fishmonger, appears on the 1881 and 1901 census age 28 and 47 born in Charlton/Kent and Greenwich/Kent. I have his 2 marriage certs: Dec 1876 (to Sarah Bunnett) age 23, and Sept 1896 (to Mary Ann Bunnett) age 42. I know all about his 2 children of the first marriage b.1877 and 1889. I even have his death cert 3 Dec 1903 age 49 in Lee Kent. I know his father was Samuel Peek, a gardener. But Southport say they cannot find his birth certificate and I don't know who his mother was. I believe they all came from the Blackheath/Greenwich area with a Norfolk connection. If someone would be v kind and look on the 1871 census maybe this would at least give his mother. I cannot see them on the 1861 census. Or has anyone any suggestions!! |
