Hi Moe thankyou for looking Haverhill came under the registration district of Risbridge. The William Pool in Staines it could be the right one although it is quite away from Edmonton, I have spent so much money getting wrong certs. that I am a bit cautious now. If I really knew when he was born it might help more then at least the age would be right . On the 1881 census his name was William Poole as on his marriage cert. but his children were registered without the E. there are a lot of William Poole's Thankyou Margaret

Hi Moe, his name William Poole sometimes Pool. according to his marriage certificate of 1871 he was 24 in the 1881 census it says 44 that is ten years out his fathers name George . It says born in Haverhill Essex or Suffolk but between 1874 and 1881 they moved to Edmonton Middlesex. His wifes name Emma Ransom found all her family in the 1871 census in Haverhill before they married in the Oct. of that year. But there is no sign of him in any census at all. on his marriage certificate his father was a weaver he a cloth cutter and that is what it says on the to Elder girls birth certificates. I think it is hopeless thank you Margaret

Dear Margaret, How I know how you feel - I have now been searching for my grandmother since I was 19 (I am 38 years old now) for 19 years I have run into brick walls - She has disappeared from the face of the earth. Every day I say 'No More' but I can't help myself - I check almost daily since I joined this site and placed repeated requests and asked for ideas. Still Nothing. I am about out of time ever finding her alive - She will be 90 this year if still alive. But even if she has passed I so want to know about her. Don't give up. Cheers from OZ janine

I spent a fortune searching for the same mans b/c asked everyone on here went back over old ground and there he was,i will look on the overseas if you want just to rule him out, put his details up(i'm in a good mood because i found mine at last and want to help others)Good Luck, MOE!

Hi Michelle Nell and Brenda, Yes I have put this on before have been trying for over three years, know one can find him I could not find him when I went to the records office. According to his Marriage certificate he could read and write as it does not have a mark. On the childrens birth certificates it has no address just in the parish of. I think he had died by the 1891 census as I found his wife and children. and 2 years later she remarried in a church to a widower. I am sure I have done everything possible to find him, I have found his wifes side of the family to way back. If there is no record of him at all what else can I do. Margaret x

Hi Margaret Have you posted on this before? When things are going wrong, it's probably a good idea to stand back a bit and look at another, easier line. Things to consider, though are: 1. Is he actually dead in 1891? One ancestor declared he was a widower because his wife was in prison! It might also mean that the couple were separated. 2. Does his occupation in 1881 tie in with his marriage certificate? Does his occupation give any extra clues to suggest he might have travelled? 3. Could he write? Details are more likely to be correct if you control what goes down on a form. This also means that boarders, servants etc are more vulnerable to being misrecorded on censuses.
