Charles Duffin born c1811 South stoneham Hampshire May say born Horton Heath He was married in 1860 to Ann born c1818 place of birth may be Botley. Can anyone help with this one. I think i have him on 1841 and definitely have him on 1871/81 Ann Glos |

Jess In 1871 and 1881 he was living in Botley Winchester street don't know about children which is why I want to find the 61 census for him. He got married in 1860 but children are unlikely as he was 48 and she was 42, she just might have had one in 1861 but there were none with them in 1871. Ann glos |

Now have him in 1851 and he was in Botley living in High street. He has to be in Botley in 1861 so why isn't he showing on the census? Ann Glos |

Was anything happening at the time? Like a War, an Exhibition, or some other reason for him possibly being elsewhere in 1861? Mind you Ann, I thought it was very careless of you to lose him in Botley, it's only a small village. I prefer to lose people in Hampton Court Maze. Lol Good hunting, jim |

looked at all pages for Botley - no sign of Charles and Ann. Duffins in the town were William aged 31 born in Horton Heath, his wife Ann aged 31 and daughter Elizabeth 1. and a Richard Duffin, 22, lodger born in Botley |

christine, thank you for looking where on earth can he be. Yes william is my GtGt Grandfather (Charles's nephew) and Elizabeth my Gt grandmother. ann Webster, she was from middlesex and that is another brick wall. Charles is really only a twig, not being in the direct line but I have found out quite a lot about him so wanted to 'tidy him up'. Not to worry. Jim Obviously he is lost somewhere else in South Stoneham which is a lot easier than being lost in Botley!! South stoneham covers a mulitude of sins. I wonder if they moved to Bitterne or southampton or fareham or Titchfield? Or anywhere in fact. I suppose he will turn up one day. Ann Glos |

Maddening, isn't it Ann. I have lost Charlotte Jones in Southampton, probably St Marys, where she was born in 1846 and married in 1865, ( it's a big place to get lost, Jim) She was in Bevois Street in 1865. Where on earth are they? |

The only thing I can think is that they were away 'on holiday' somewhere. (Did they go on holiday?). Maybe they were staying with the wife's parents. haven't checked that out. wife's surname wap Pink so will have to check it out. Ann glos |

I cannot find your family but it might help if you understand that South Stoneham(the place) is part of South Stoneham registration district http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/ham.htm#ssto So someone Who says they were born in South Stoneham is refering to the place. Present day Swathling,i think. |

Hi Ann, I seem to remember that there were a few 'Duffins' around the Colden Common area. Not a million mile away from Botley. This from memory as we have a Duffin or two as twigs on branches, on branches, on a bough, (sort of thing). Regards, Mick Davie. |
