I was able to find the burials of two brothers and the wife of one (the other brother never married), a great result.

Hi There, You will not be able to access the 1940 birth records unless you apply to the Registrar General's office of the particular province you are looking in. In accordance, with the Canadian Freedom Of Information Act, those records are still sealed. My understanding is, the only people who can access them are direct relatives, and you would have to produce a death certificate if I'm not mistaken....hope that helps answer your question. All the Best Wendy

Dea, If it is Ontario you are looking for Births 1869 to 1908 Marriages 1869 to 1922 Deaths 1869 to 1932 Are in the public domain. These sites are trying to get them online, but it is slow process. I think you can ask for a specific lookup for a small fee if you can't find it on the site. http://homepages.rootsweb(.)com/~maryc/ontmarr.htm http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb(.)com/~births/index.htm Just re read the message and see you need BC, but perhaps above info will be of use to someone else! Kind regards Barbara

Had a look and the original 1911 census images for Ontario are on there, so I might be able to spot my Dennis family in Owen Sound.

Thanks again Martin but this site does not cover the 1940's. I now think, however, that the information I need is not legally available in Canada. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks, Dea

If it is BC then you should be able to search the records. http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-D262A0/gbsearch/Marriages etc MB

Thanks Martin. The province I need is British Columbia. Dea

It depends on the Canadian province. Each one has their own system and there is no national index. Some are very good with the equivalent to BMD online. You can then sometimes send off for a copy of a certificate by EMail and receive a copy back by EMail. But some provinces are quite expensive and do not seem to be geared up for family history searches. Some censuses are now online but not as well indexed as the UK ones. MB

What is the site for the earlier ones, please, as I have just found some more people who went there around 1905?

Is it possible to search Canadian births, deaths and marriages on line for the 1940's onwards. The only site I can find only shows them up to the early 1900's Thanks, Dea x
