You really need to know which one if either married Martha. I would put the message up on the Records Board page if I were you.

Just found a couple of William Manns on IGI born in Deeping St. James. Do you think it's worth me pursuing them seeing as thats where Ann was born? Carole

I think someone has pre 1837 Lincolnshire marriages on the records board. You should put a query on there to see if Martha Royston married William Mann. This would at least confirm that this is the right birth record for Ann.

I can't find a marriage on IGI or familihistoryonline. It's possible they never married, and she made him up, or she may have been told that he was her father.

So we need to find William Mann marrying Martha to confirm that. You could try for the parish records and check if there is any mention of a middle name (sometimes the fathers) or a bastardy record anywhere?

Yes that's her! On marriage cert it says she's a spinster and a minor so don't think she'd been married before, think she must have been illigitimate. Carole

Well, this is a possible birth and it looks like she was illegitimate if its the right girl. In which case we need to find mum marrying Mr Mann? Remember, this is the christening date so it is likely she was born in 1818. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: 07 JAN 1819 Deeping St. James, Lincoln, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Mother: MARTHA ROYSTON Family -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Messages: Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type: C028771 1791 - 1860 0421986 Film 6907684

Kathy, I have one where she is shown with her previous married name and as 'spinster' . Her father was therefore a different surname, though I knew I had the right one as the census showed two of the kids in the family with her previous married surname. I also found her previous marriage (with her single surname) and the death of her previous husband.

Thanks Everyone Her name was Ann Royston/Roystone born 1818 in Deeping St. James. She married William Green in Langtoft Lincs in 1837. Her father is named as William Mann occupation Butcher. Carole xx

The 'father' she named could have been her 'stepfather'. She may have been born before her mother married. Or she could have been married before herself, although you should be able to tell this from the certificate as it should give her previous married name and her maiden name. Kath. x

When and where are you looking? He might be on the censuses. She could, of course, be lying about who her father is on the marriage cert for whatever reason. In which case, you may never find him. Post some details and we'll see what we can do :)

I've just received a marriage cert for my gggrandparents and the brides surname is different from her fathers. Does anyone have any tips on how I can try to trace him, considering I know nothing about him only his name and occupation? Thankyou. Carole
