The bride's age is certainly open to adjustment! My g-g-mother: 1851 - age 2 months 1861 - age 9 1871 - age 21 1881 - age 27 1884 (marriage) - age 26 (husband age 20) 1891 - age 33 1901 - age 43 At first I thought I was dealing with two different people - a child born in 1851 who died and then the name given to a later-born child. It's the 1861 record that foils that idea. Christine |

Judy The 1881 census stuff you have is spot on. they are my family but I am not sure how it relates to the 1855 marriage and earlier children. However, we are assuming current morals etc. if he was 15 at his first born out of wedlock that would not surprise me for the time. I would like to sort out the age differential from the marriage certs. perhaps Catherine was too embarrased to have such a younger husband and lied about her age. In those days, who cared ? It was the man's details that mattered |

Being that children all show as being born prior to John and Catherine's marriage, if this is the correct couple, do you think that the children may have been from a previous marriage of John's? |

John..... The information came from the IGI on the LDS site. Under the information for both the boys the parents were named as John Sands and Catherine: www.familysearch.org I hadn't seen anything on Mary - of course you would have to verify the facts are correct on LDS. There were only a few John Sand(s) that came up in the search and only the information I originally posted was close to the time frame you are searching..... Around the same time period, there were also other Sand's that were married at the same church....perhaps a connection there, siblings of your John? Something to keep in mind should other names pop up in your search: 1. THOMAS SANDS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Marriage: 06 MAY 1857 Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England 2. THOMAS NANGREAVE SAND - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Marriage: 10 DEC 1858 Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England 3. JOHN SANDS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Marriage: 15 JUL 1855 Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England 4. MARY ANN SANDS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Marriage: 13 FEB 1859 Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England 5. JOSEPH SANDS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Marriage: 17 JUN 1859 Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England In 1881 the household shows the following children - John's date of birth, 1837, matching the 1861 census information: Household: Name Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation Disability John SANDS Head M Male 44 Manchester, Lancashire, England Iron Planer Iron Works Catherine SANDS Wife Female 48 Manchester, Lancashire, England William SANDS Son U Male 22 Manchester, Lancashire, England Puddler Iron Works Ann SANDS Daur U Female 20 Manchester, Lancashire, England Nut & Bolt Screwer Austin SANDS Son U Male 17 Manchester, Lancashire, England Laborer Iron Works Sarah SANDS Daur Female 15 Manchester, Lancashire, England Housekeeper (Dom) Francis SANDS Son Male 13 Manchester, Lancashire, England Scholar Catherine SANDS Daur Female 11 Sheffield, York, England Scholar |

JUdy, Thanks for looking. Were the THomas 1850 and Joseph 1848 related to the John and Catherine you found married 1855 ? It seems a bit confusing. The detail I have as at 1861 census are:- John Head 24 Cartherine 28 THomas 5 Mary 3 William 3 ( my g grandfather) ann 0 (1 week) all born manchester |

No John you cant get everything on line Im afraid. If you belong to ancestry hopefully 1851 will be available soon - the sub is reduced at the moment if you want to join. But it will be a case of actually buying the certificates to confirm info. |

If you are sure you have the right family on the census, I would get the marriage certificate from the reference given above AND Thomas' birth certificate, which should give the name of the mother's father (which hopefully is her maiden name). You can then be fairly sure you've got the correct couple. |
