Yes I agree, If only they included a 'Corrections' facility. I can't see the point otherwise. |

PMSL I've been on LDS all day today and came across some of the howlers here LOL Some of the entries are useless and should be blocked somehow, there must be a way. Why on earth people enter such c**p I have no idea. Having said that, I was lucky and I did actually find my Thomas Burch and Mary SMITH !!!! Jan xx |

I found it helped to chat with a spiritualist medium to help with some of my ancestors. She was more reliable & accurate than some of the sites I've visited. She doesn't do family search often as she ends up sitting with the client for hours. |

Got mixed views on this site. You can sometimes strike it lucky. Just found a child christened 3 months before he was born and the entry is on the site twice. Maureen |

I have discussed this problem with Family search volunteers. Unfortunately every time a 'genealogist' donates information to the church it gets added to all the rest of the history already gathered or stored, mistakes 'et al'.... there are NEVER any amendments made. Still a good source if used wisely and correctly....... we are all limited for searching pre-1837 GRO records. I won't knock them! Bob |

If it wasn't so annoying these entries would be funnier. The poor old LDS Church does take some stick over this, but you can't really blame the Church. They asked their Members to do just what we are doing, seek out their ancestors, and then to send the info to Salt Lake City where the Master Tree was, presumably, to be assembled. Unfortunately some members were rather more enthusiastic than accurate. |

I just love reading these tales about LDS and the unbelievable things that are found on that website. It makes my day. Who said geneaology was a dry old subject. Lots of laughs here. Susie |

Ancestry is just as bad !!!! LDS does take the biscuit , however I have just managed to get ancestry, and was running around the house like a little school girl.....reason Well I typed in quite an unusual name, Edward Howison Johnstone, and was delighted to find my great gramps in Army lists, but then I found him all over the world so was not as pleased. Decided to type in boll***s Johnstone, and low and behold he was there too. Somehow I dont believe we did have a child in the family baptized with this name!!!! |

And my poor 4 x GGM married her own son five years before he was born. She had 44 children, some of them only three months apart. She had twins born two days apart, but tough old bird that she was, when she had delivered the first one, she got up and walked 15 miles each way to have the child christened. She then presumably went back to bed, delivered the next one, walked five miles in the opposite direction to have the child baptised - with the same name as the first. She either married four times, or not at all. She lived till she was well over 100, delivering her last child at the age of 69.Behold, I show you a miracle. I'm afraid that unless I see a definite date and a named Church, I take no notice. Even when I DO take notice, I always check against the original PR. Good job I do, too - several interesting little ahem, corrections, shall we say, to the ACTUAL truth. Olde Crone |

According to someone's tree submitted to LDS, my 4xgrandfather fathered his 1st child aged 5, the last one aged 65, he was married to at least 6 different women in 4 counties then died in Wales 7yrs after he actually died in Derbyshire. All because he had a slightly unusual surname and, as you say, someone has attributed all the entries on IGI to that name as being him! It should all be taken with a large pinch of salt and checked against the original PR's |

Ive seen some who should make medical history. Back in early 1800s, one chap we researched was fathering children years after he died. |

I am going to Shrewsbury RO next week so thought I better do some prep work. My Gtx3 Samuel Wilkes but parents Weeks is down as Wickes. Fair enough, the babt. image is awfull. Anyway put him in then did batch number. Copied these and put the parents names against the 16 names on batch number. Samuel's parents are Joseph and Eleanora so to see if there were any other children on a different batch number put in J&E. A list of 30+ came up. Someone has claimed all the Weeks children. One has been called Joseph jr.!! There are 3 records of the same marriage. Correct date but in Myddle/Wrockwardin and Arochwarden!! I have come across errors before but this takes the biscuit |
