I was looking for William HEARN, b abt 1882 son of William, both shown as labourers on a parish record of William the younger's marriage, 1903 in Portsmouth........ I found a likely person on Ancestry but on the next page, same household, is yet another William HEARN, a widower. He is shown as father in law. Other than him being the step father and William (father of the groom) taking on his name can anyone think of another scenario? |

Do you know what Lydias maiden name was? He might be her father, but the enumerator 'forgot' to change the name. |

Hi Tracy No I know little about this family. I found out that my great grandmother, Charlotte had a 2nd family, with her 2nd husband, and William's 1903 marriage was to her daughter of that husband. |

I'm even more confused now lol Susan is married in 1871. Question is, did she marry William before or after William was born? |

I don't envy you trying to sort this one out lol If you need any more help, let me know. I couldn't see a marriage for William and Susan on FreeBMD, but it's probably not been transcribed yet. |

Tracy As regards... was she married? I take anything to do with this lot, with a large pinch of salt. My great grandmother is shown as a widow in 1881 with a young baby, ... even though her husband had been dead over 4 years. By 1891 she had 'married' and had another 3 children but I found her marriage to that 'husband' registered in 1892. |

lol I know what you mean. One of my lot had 4 kids by the time she was 20, and then suddenly decided to marry their dad and have a load more! It was fun trying to piece that one together lol They usually end up staying with Grandparents on census night too lol |

Oh yes. ...The staying with Granny ones, lol. Actually I was HELPED by that over the weekend. In 1861 census my great grandmother,Emma, aged 1, was staying with her grandmother and logged with her full name. As she was shown as step grandaughter I could piece together that her granny Jane had married? again. As Granny Jane started life as Jane JONES and Emma was a DAVIES I needed all the help I could get. |

Could this be William senior? Taken from RSS off Documents Online. Name Hearn, William Official Number: 63479 Place of Birth: Bermondsey, Surrey 4 April 1832 ADM 188/44 If so, you could find his voyages and work out whether he was on shore enough time to be your William's father! |
