I'm new to this and could really do with some help! I think I have found My nans Dad on the 1901 census and have also managed to trace back the same family through 2 other cenus' but I am unsure if the James Pullen I originally found is actually my nans father. The enrty on the 1901 census is as follows 7 miniver st Henry pullen head 60 Elizabeth Pullen Wife 58 Thomas ' Son 20 James ' Son 19 The problem is that my nan does not know any of her fathers Family so I can't guarentee its him. I don't even know his birth date. All I have to go on is that her mothers name was Sarah Pullen nee Baldwin and she would have been in her early 40's in 1921 when nan was born. Where do I go from here? I know the names of Nan's siblings but only guesstimates for ages. Her oldest brother was married when she was about 5. HELP!!!! Anything you can do to help would be so appreciated.....I'm dying to get an absolute connection to the family I have found as I'm sure they are his parents and siblings!! Thanks Sharon

Do you know what area of the country they would have got married in? Reading through what you've said, am I right in assuming that they probably married somewhere between 1901 and 1910 (that's if they had children who were married in about 1926 when your nan was 5). Kath. x

They would have been married in Southwark London south east. Think the date sounds about right!!

So!! am I right you have your nans birth cert & her parents were James Pullen & Sarah nee Baldwin??. They had children from about 1901. So the next thing is to find the marriage cert of James & Sarah & then when you know that you can search for both on the 1901 census, either as a married couple or with their respective families. Sarah would have born c 1870-1880.? The marriage cert I wuld say of james & sarah is your next best way. Shirley

The other names are another couple who married either the couple before or the couple after yours in the same church. The entrries are listed four names to a page and unless you know one ''pair'' you can't straight away know who married who. Do you know how to order a cert? Online is cheapest £7....from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0 Merry

The other people are another couple on the same page who got married. Nothing to do with your family. Kath. x

NO Sharon . the other names on the list are people who married at the same time and are on the gro ref as your rellies. the only thing you will need is the ref to get the cert. Shirley

LOL Kathleen!! I got stuck not finding the entry with ''Sarah Baldwin'' so looked at each James in Southwark. Only looked at two! Sharon - the best site for making an initial serch for an index entry for a birth marriage or death cert is http://freebmd.rootsweb(.)com/cgi/search.pl (remove the brackets). It is free, but is not complete for all years (ongoing project). If you go to the main page on FreeBMD and then look at Information, Coverage Charts you can see what records are included on the site. There are pay-per-view sites for looking for time frames not available on FreeBMD. Merry
