I was reading my Family Tree mag today and there was an add for ancestry listing the census and info available and then in big letters - wait for it - 1851 census soon! WOO HOO

I remember earlier this year there was a press release from an Ancestry spokesperson in which they said that 1851 would be online by the end of this year. Therefore, considering that this ad is in November's issue, a December release for 1851 seems most likely... Richard

You & me both, Heather! Maybe I will finally be able to make progress on my Parsons/Richards/Manning/Glasby/Gilbert lines, all hiding in London somewhere! Hoping that all their parents were still alive in 1851, correctly transcribed & with their right ages & birthplaces... oh well, dream on, I suppose!

Margaret - if you know the address(es) in Islington that you want to look at you can see the images on Stepping Stones now, first use the 'London Street Index' to find what piece and folio numbers you need and then you can choose which 'film' you need to look at (you have to buy credits for it). The address is http://www.stepping-stones (.) c o (.) uk/index.cfm remove brackets and spaces Kate.

Hi, Got a sub to www(.)thegenealogist(.)co(.)uk over the weekend. They have London 1851 index online and the 1841. Just found out this morning when I turned on the 'puter that they have added more 1841's. Looks like this could be alot of fun, better than waiting for ancestry.

Yes Ive spent a fiver on genealogy for the 1851 - seemed well worth it if you are stuck finding someone.
