There is nothing online to search, but this is the address you need:- Principal Registry of the Family Division 1st Avenue House 42-49 High Holborn WC1V 6NP Internet Address: www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk Tel:020 7947 6000 They will do a 10 year search for a divorce, but it costs about £20. Kath. x |

As a very start point, if you can give me the names of the couple involved (don't let it be Smith lol) I'll have a look in The Times newspaper archive as this may give you an exact date to work with. Very few divorces at that time, so they printed all the decree absolutes in the paper. (couldn't do that now, could they!!??) I think many records are held at The National Archives at Kew. Merry - PS I may not get back to you straight away, unless you reply in the next few mins, as it's bed time here! Will take a look at the thread in the morning. Merry PS Kate meant to say divorce! |

Unbelievable!! nearly every list of cases I looked at gave the initials for the parties involved, except, (it seemed), for those named Hill!! Anyway. I looked at 1901-1910 and these are the cases I found. Maybe you know the surname of a likely co-respondent? The dates are the newspaper edition dates, as it was quicker to spot these. Usually the decree absolute was issued in the previous couple of working days. 22 Nov 1901 Hill v Hill and Young 14 Jul 1902 Hill v Hill and Collett 17 Feb 1904 Hill v Hill and Harrell 12 Jan 1906 (undefended) Hill L S and Hill L J 13 Jul 1908 Hill V Hill and Day 14 Oct 1908 Hill v Hill and Hutchinson 17 Jul 1909 Hill v Hill and Nicholas 26 Apr 1910 Hiss A S v Hill R 2 May 1910 Hill v Hill and Weston 22 Nov 1910 Hill I G v Hill S L If you want me to look any later I can....... Still not able to find if he did marry again. A big thanks again for any help. Alan |

Alan I have nudged up a thread explaining how to get access to The Times archive. I hope it's the right one that explains how to do it from Oz (you have to fake a UK postal code or something) You will probably find you can only search realistically up to the start of WW1. By a couple of years into the war ''everyone'' was getting a divorce!! If you get stuck with it, pop a thread on here, and I'll take a look back tomorrow.... Merry |

Oops, I don't know, because it's not the site I use!! (I have access through my own library, so have never looked at the Berkshire one......) Why don't you post a message on the thread about the free access? as I'm sure someone else can advise you... Merry |
