It is entirely possible for a name tyo duie out. There was an article last year in one of the Genealogy journals about a british chap who was the last person in the world to have his surname. This was verified after many years of searching by a number of genealogists in different countries. However I can't recall the name but the chap was british and in his 70's. I believe it began with a P |

There are also 27 results for Cudding on Family History Online and 19 of them are from Suffolk with 3 Norfolk, so I would guess it originated from that area. There are various dictionaries of surnames available with information about how and where particular surnames originated, but I have found whenever I look my ancestors' rare surname (Glasscodine) up in them it is never there, so I don't know if it would be worth you looking Cudding up in one. Anyway, ancestry doesn't have that much recent data available apart from the 1984 to 2004 or whatever it is BMD's. There are 31 entries on the IGI and the vast majority of them are also Suffolk. There are no matches on 192 d o t c o m, so it may well have died out. No, but wait - there are a few matches on ancestry d o t c o m against recent databases in the USA! Kate. |

I have been looking on ancestry for recent people with the name cudding..there are none! I have also put the name into google and again nothing!! it is like there is not a single cudding in the uk or and the name has totally died out I cant find any history on the name either. Some of my ancesters are cuddings, but I cant find many on the census returns either, is it possible that the name has died out now?? and how can i find out where the name originated from? |
