I would never discount marriages that are years after the kids were born. That led me astray when I found a couple right names marrying 17 years after the first kiddie. I sent off for the marriage cert and low and behold the grooms father proved it was them! Sometimes I think some thing happens like a marriage of a child that seems to prick their consience or perhaps a zealous vicar does!

Do you reckon this is yours too? Well this looks like Elizabeths marriage - may be worth getting the certificate to see who dad was and what he did to tie it into your lot? There is a marriage between Joseph Minshull and Mary Ann Jones on IGI but it took place in 1846 so I had discounted it.

Well you could check the older kids birth certs if they were born after 1837 or you could check out the marriage cert of the daughter who appears to have married? Have you looked on IGI?

Heather, I assumed Joseph MINSHULL Head M 54 M Master Umbrella Tube Maker Employing 12 Person Aston-War and Josh Minshull,40,,Brass Founder Jrnymn,WAR, were the same person. As it would appear the marriage would have taken place around 1820 I don't know how to check the maiden name. I've checked BMD but can't see a Minshull/James marriage Matthew

It would seem very possible, ages tended to be rounded down to the nearest five so Josh could easily be Joseph of the 1851? He did well for himself in those ten years! Similar line of work. As the visitor is likely to be a relative, have you checked if the wife was a Matthews before she was a Minshull? Also that the daughter Elizabeth married a James? And a few of the kids in the 1841 are missing in the 1851 when they are seemingly too young to have left home - have you checked for deaths? Dont know really, likely it is them but could be close rellies I guess?
