I dont have any Snowballs in my family tree, but I do know some, just about to celebrate their diamond wedding, they did live in Sunderland, and are interested in Family history. Is this of potential interest? Pam |

ive just uncovered this name yesterday in a family in Sunderland-he was born round the 1890's and had it as a middle name-along with Lister. Anthony Snowball Lister. |

I have quite a few Snowballs on my tree. I have some from Whitby in Yorkshire and some from Liverpool. Would love to hear from anyone that maybe related. Best wishes Yvonne |

Your Snowball middle name could be either mothers maiden name or childs father's mothers maden name, but this can also depend on the position of the child in the family. If you have managed to track all the siblings of a particuar set of parents (better still the children of two or more siblings) you may be able to see a naming pattern so you can begin to predict what the custom in a family or even a district was. The later in the birth sequence the child is (say after the 5th one or so) the pattern can break down as they run out of names, and off the wall ones come in. I have a 6th child named after a married childless sister of his mother, another, 3rd boy named after one of his mother's uncles (by marriage her aunt was the blood relative) This one should help as a link back a generation or even two. (and better than Brown or Jones) Pam |
