My Dad only replied that he was too young to go into pubs so didn't take any notice of them (?). Anyway Mansfield library has an excellent local studies section and you could always contact Nottinghamsgire Archives. To be honest I would suggest Mansfield Library first as the Archive Centre seems to be more Nottingham centred. Good Luck, Pippa

Have you tried the local studies library? They are often very helpful and might give you some pointers if they don't have any info. themselves. Good luck Helen

If you know approximate location of the pub, you might find it by 'walking' round in a census. It could easily have been renamed. One near here has changed name twice in the last 2 years.

Perhaps there is a local branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) that you could contact. Someone may know about it.

I will ask my Dad tomorrow as he was born and brought up in the area. The response will either be: A) How the bloody hell should I know? or B) When I was working on the farm/chicken factory/Chip Shop so and so used to drive me past there............................ very boring story. I shall be going to my grandmother's tomorrow evening so might not be able to reply until tomorrow night but I will ask him. Pippa

Joy someone a little while ago put up a webaddress that gave old pictures of places in Nottinghamshire. Sorry for the life of me can't remember what it was but it had Sutton in Ashfield in it so would think Mansfield is there as well. I will keep racking my brain to see if I can rem, ember it.

Joy have you tried googling to see if Mansfield has any history societies? I did this for Shropshire, and they had a bit about pubs past and present, and one named landlords. Also Curious Fox, lets you post for information on individual villages, even if you haven't paid subs.
