I would like to know if it shows particular roads on it. Locton Street and Monier Road. Thanks Fi |

hello Fi my luv! I think I have an old ordnance survey here somewhere, plus and old A to Z. I am just rushing out to take son to a party, so please bear with me - will get on it as soon as I get back! Out of interest, what surnames are you looking at in the area, and also what sort of date please - the old OS maps have some resident's names on them. Maz. XX |

You might be able to find them on this site, but its a bit of a fiddle: http://booth.lse.ac.uk/ The good thing is you can see a modern map on the same page at the same time. nell |

ok! Monier Rd E3 is in my old A to Z. It is at right angles to the east of the A102(M) - Blackwall tunnel approach road - at Old Ford - right next to the motorway. Runs between Wick Lane and Roach Road. It shows on multimap. Locton Street is NOT in my A to Z - will go and dig out the OS map and be back in a min! Maz. XX |

If you go to www.streetmap.*co.*uk and type in Parnell road, Locton street was between Candy street and Ruston road. As for Monier Road it is still there to the north east of Locton just beyond the A12 |

Hiya - not on my Bow, Bromley and West Ham 1893 OS map - no Howe mentioned either. From what Janet has said and looking in the A to Z, it would be covered in old OS map no. 52 - Bethnal Green 1894 - if it was still there then! It is just on the other side of the motorway from Monier - just a few mins walk before the motorway was built! Both would come under Old Ford I suppose and are right by Victoria Park - a fair bet that your rellies used to have a stroll there on Sundays and B Holidays! Maz. XX |

Maz, Just what I wanted to clarify. There are old maps on that famous auction site and I was going to purchase the 1893 Bow, Bromley one but now I wont. I will buy the Bethnal Green one instead. My Great Grandfather was born in Locton Street in 1880 and they were in Monier Road on the 1881 census. Thanks Fi |
