Hi Everyone, sorry I didn't reply sooner have had the grandchildren all day.I heard back from the chap at the local LDS centre and he said that he was unaware of any changes to passwords although he had heard from someone else that noone new could register until Nov.7th,and advised me just to use the site as a visitor.,he would see what else he could find out and let me know. The only advantage to registering (it's free) is that you can email the site and also get intouch with other members if you think you share ancestors.etc. As I said before I'm a real dunce when it comes to things like this so I'm very careful in responding to emails like this just incase they are dodgy . Hope this helps , Elaine

I wouldnt change it if I were you. Sounds dodgey, why would an upgrade make any difference to a password. Send it to familysearch.

It could be someone collecting passwords on the principle that many people use the same password on different sites. MB

I've been using this site for 7 or 8 years and never registered, hence never had a password. Are there any advantages to registering?...J.

Hi Thank you all for your replies, just thought I'd update you.Tried to contact site direct but can only do that if you log on....so found one of their research centres and phoned the member there knew nothing about site changes and will find out and ring me back as and when. I know the site can be used without logging on but it's the principal really... Will let you know when I hear anything,Thanks again, Elaine

I,ve looked at the site now & clicked on register & it says down till 7th nov. Sign in lets you in & guess you can then access your account from there. Would change my password direct thro the site but not by going to the site thro the email you got, this should be safe then. Shirley

Hi Elaine, Yes I had a message too today that our account password no longer functions due to recent changes on the Web site. Also that they hope to complete site upgrades within the next two weeks. At first I did not know what it was about until I realized that my husband had signed up two years ago, completely forgotten about it, and we can not remember our user name either. Elizabeth

Didn't know you needed a password on that site. I'd leave well alone unless someone can come up with an explanation. Like you, I don't think you can be too careful.

Are you actually registered to the site? If so I wouldnt reply to the email but contct them thro the site to ask them to confirm. I only use the site to search so dont have to log in or anything Shirley

Hi Everyone, This probably sounds really silly to you but I thought I'd check with you clever people first.....I've just had email from Familysearch site to say that I need to change my password (keep my username) as they are upgrading site.I'm just so wary of things like this,I know that account details etc aren't on this site but could it be a hackers way of getting in do you think?.As you've gathered I'm not very bright with things like this. Regards to you all, Elaine
