Why has 1837 Online changed?

I can now view 1837 Online without the frustration of the viewed registers not turning red. I just switch browsers to IE and all is well. Mozilla Firefox it seems is not compatible - whatever. Anyway, IE works! Thanks Richard - your guidance helped a great deal in solving this simply! Rosi

Richard - I have replied to you privately- I hope you don't mind. Karen - On the whole I am, or at least have been, happy with the 1837 Online service. It was my fault that I bought far too many units and found myself unable to use them at the time I thought I could. This problem of my 'views' not turning red when I have searched them is the first real problem I have had - but it is frustrating - to put it mildly. The site has also not responded to my plea for support - so far. I would like to use my units, or at least a fair few of them before expiry date - (for myself and other peeps I hope) - so I do hope I can 'sort it' before then! Rosi :)

Oh dear! Sorry it didn't work. I forgot to ask - which browser (& version) are you using? The above instructions were are assuming Internet Explorer v6.0. Also, do the links change colour for other sites that you visit, aside from 1837online? E.g. if you do a Google search, do the names for visited sites turn purple (or red or whatever) when you use the back button to return to the Google results? Do you have cookies enabled? If not, then you should enable cookies for 1837online site. Not sure that this will fix it, but would be worth a try. Richard

Tried again - and rebooted - just in case that worked it- but nope. :((

Alas Richard - It didn't work! - see my grateful thanks to you on other thread! I did Tools/Options - opening to General. Clicking the fonts and colours box gave me a brill selection of colours (and fonts). I selected the obvious colour, clicked ok, and then.... I went to 1837 to check it - and alas the visited page remains stubbornly black! Grrrr. Thankyou so much for trying to help - it should have worked! Wryly - Rosi

Rosi: (1) From the Tools menu, select Internet Options (2) On the General tab, click on Colors (3) On the right, where it says Links, change the colour of Visited links to red (or whatever you want) (4) Click on OK Hopefully, that should fix it! Richard

Nope- it isn't that I am getting them free- or that I haven't paid! I have loads to use (900 ish!) and they have to be used by mid December. I checked again a few mins ago - the number remaining goes down for each page I look at - but once I have looked at it it doesn't turn red but remains black. I have as yet had no reply from the 'contact us' button - it is the weekend - tis frustrating. I bought far too many originally and was then for various reasons unable to use them. I will cheerfully use them to look things up for other peeps - what goes around comes around, ( I have received a lot of help from these boards) - but I would like the red 'view's to reappear! Rosi

Somewhere on the site it tells you for how long your payment is valid to view an image - before you have to pay to view again. Christine

Hi, I looked at some entries on the 1837 earlier today and then logged out . Have just gone back to the same entries and they are still red and I am able to re-view them without paying and I've checked that the amount of my units have remained the same. Aileen

Rosi, Perhaps if they remained black and you viewed them, you are not being charged to view - In which case, perhaps you should 'keep quiet'. ((OOOpps - Is that dishonest?) Anyway, do check first. Dea x

Hmm. How odd. It was all in one session - I spent 30 mins on there just before posting this, and each 'view' remained black both before and after I had viewed it. I will contact the site - or maybe its something to do with my PC! oooooo er! Rosi

It still changes red to me. I have just been on the site. This will only happen while you are logged on in one session. If you log off the site they wont still be red and you would have to pay again. Margaret

Last time I had to search a number of years for an event, the 'VIEW' button turned red when a year had been viewed - so it was easy to see which years I had yet to search. I tend bring up 3 or 4 years either side of the time when I think the even was likely to be, and then start in the middle and work outwards. But now I can't tell where I've been without writing it down. Is this a site (sea!) change, or is there something I can do to bring the facility back? Rosi
